‘Hellfire’
A second Le Cool Dublin cover by Dublin-based illustrator Lauren O’Neill. Following her acclaimed ‘Malone Rouge‘ spot from last week
Lauren sez:
“Like most Wexford children I grew up terrified of the Legend of Loftus Hall. Then, when I moved to Dublin, I learned that the same thing allegedly happened up here in the Hellfire Club. Had to feel bad for the Devil at that point, touring around Leinster in his bare feet, losing at cards. I assume his game has improved since.”

Excellent!
“Had to feel bad for the Devil at that point, touring around Leinster in his bare feet, losing at cards. I assume his game has improved since.”
Apparently he did, on a famous train that runs between Quadalquivir and old Seville. But apparently he is now playing chess….
Great illustration
Love that. As a kid we’d often take a walk up to the Hellfire club. At first we’d be afraid to actually go near the place, only view from afar such was the mythology around it.
Later in life we avoided it for another reason, the scummers knacker drinking.
Great stuff again. impressive styling.
Scared me, though not as much as the previous pic of Michael Flatley.
He was up to his auld tricks at Castletown House in Celbridge too.
Great work. Plus I love the Hellfire Club story, and the walk up there at night-time…on the hoof.
Best one yet. Brilliant stuff, Lauren!
Great cover. Bit crap though that they have an open call for submissions, state competition is stiff, and this is the second time they have used the same artist two weeks in a row.
“You will believe in him, when you meet him!” Reply of Padre Pio to a woman who told him that she did not believe in Satan!
