Around 40 Irish Water protesters ‘occupied’ Dublin City Council offices yesterday.
Some of the protesters attempted to ask DCC Chief Executive Officer Owen Keegan questions about Irish Water – and the DCC’s relationship with Irish Water – but Executive Manager Vincent Norton spoke to them instead.
Mr Norton laid out what the DCC is obliged to do by law.

These water protestors haven’t a clue.
+1 and its an aggressive approach. What did they expect to find out? This has gone on too long. If they don’t want to pay, then that’s their choice. Why go to DCC and annoy this man on something he has no control over?
Vincent Norton is a very patient man.
98% lead in the water.
What official research do you base this on?
The guy said it in the video. It makes no sense. 98% of what? The water? Is there lead flowing from the pipes? He should sell that!
all very civil – ironically with all those lead pipes we really need to invest in the network.
Very well handled by Mr. Norton. All very civil. It does appear that the protesters are very poorly informed or more likely being fed a pack of drivel by those who should know better.
I wouldn’t say poorly informed, I haven’t gone through (any) legislation myself to be fair. If anything, they can be accused of logic jumps and viewing the world literally. The camera man is the worst for that.
What’s wrong with lead piping? Look how intelligent we all are. It’s clearly doing a great job.
But no matter – thrown shit will stick to some wall or other so keep at it boy
Honest. Open. Patient. Impressed! More of this please!
I am so sick of hearing Irish water protesters go on and on. Every other country in the world has water meters. Get over it. These people have everything handed to them on a plate for free and now they want more…
At least those who see the protestors as idle idiots are now having their say
Paul, irish water has twice the european average no. of employees getting paid twice the European average.
if you’re going to compare, do it correctly.
One complaint after another, desperately trying to catch him out.
Well I would think yes the giving of names to Irish water can be stopped, and this can be done under the freedom of information act, no contract with Irish water means no to dealing with the company, if a person does not want to deal with this unwanted company, then any demand for money is extortion.
4 minutes in when those two harpies started chanting ‘jail jail jail them all’ at the mention of Dail Eireann and the mouthpiece with the camera said ‘uh well what about the bankers wages’ in a response to a statement about contract law. That’s when I turned it off. Gobshites to a man.
Even the women?
I thought its the best argument I’ve yet seen for how the water service could be best retained in local authorities hands. I’m sure others would be able to articulate their grievances in a more considered way etc but the fact that clients of the corporation were able to go into the Civic Office and have a generally civil conversation in matters of mutual concern with a top official is interesting.
What’s the chance of that happening when the authorities fully divest responsibility to a private concern? Advocates for the case for privatisation could point to success stories in the UK couldn’t they? Couldn’t they? Anyone?
Owen Keegan has questions to answer regarding the Dublin water infrastructure and his failure to improve it despite having money available.
