Priests For Equality say:

“Fr Matty and a few of the cool priests got together yesterday and made this video. All the priests Ive known throughout my life have been kind, intelligent and incredibly compassionate people, so I can only imagine how devastating it has been for them to see people use God and religion as a reason to deny love between two people. God bless!”

Thanks J

The Catholics, the Presbyterians, Quakers, Muslims, Unitarians, Church of Ireland, Jewish, Hindu, Sheikh: none of these support a yes vote. Disgusting.

One of those things isn’t true.
Another one isn’t a religion, its an arabic term of nobility.

It’s not disgusting. It’s their right to vote No. I personally cant understand why we have to vote. A stroke of a pen could change it over night, but maybe being that simplistic is hard for people to grasp. Yes I know because it’s the constitution we HAVE to vote. But it’s idiotic to still have a say in other people’s lives.

A stroke of a pen WILL change it overnight if you x the Yes box (ok two strokes to be exact). That’s the point of voting surely.

Huge difference. We have campaigns and debates for right up till the vote. When months ago it could have been done by Tds with no fuss or cost or hassle.

Church of Ireland doesn’t say vote no though, but that people should vote according to their consciences. Also see the Bishop Paul Colton, of Cork Cloyne and Ross, who strongly supports gay (civil) marriage.

Also, the Irish Quakers don’t seem to have an official policy as such on gay marriage: some statements made seem broadly favourable. The British Quakers support gay marriage. Also, I can’t see anywhere where there’s been an official statement by the leaders of Ireland’s Jewish community on the matter. The Presbyterians and Catholics say no alright.

Irish rabbis support a no vote. Tho, some of the congregation support a yes. But the official synagogue line is ‘vote no’

        1. Jonotti

the Unitarians aren’t advocating either way. They say they’ll decide whether to marry gay people after the referendum has been passed.

          1. Medium Sized C

They have expressed a desire to marry gay people in the past.
And Internationally the Unitarians support gay marriage.

What I gather from your comment, though, is that you broadly want Religious groups involved in politics.
That it disgusts you that religious groups will not stay out of politics and the state.

          2. Jonotti

Ok, ring Brigit Spain and ask her for the Unitarian position. She’ll tell you the exact same thing I did. Irish Unitarians are not advocating a yes vote. They’ll decide whether to allow gay marriage on their premises after the ref.

      1. Jonotti

The Irish Quakers say that they are not advocating either way. If the vote passes, they’ll decide whether they’ll allow gay marriage to be conducted on their premises.

          1. Jonotti

Yes. The quakers in Ireland also throw out of their church any one who goes bankrupt. Disgusting and true.

    4. Janet

As a Presbyterian, I can tell you all the ones I know are voting yes and don’t appreciate how in bed the catholic church and state have been in their very own marriage of sorts for way too long. Enough with the church, any church having a say in citizens lives.

      1. Jonotti

As a presbyterian I know that you’re lying, or haven’t got out much. Huge ‘no’ vote in our community.

        1. Janet

Our ?? oh god I had you down as a hard core catholic , yes I got out, out of the north :) try it some time.

          1. Janet

and actually that’s not fair on the north.. knee jerk, just the more exyreme elements tend to be more public there but I’d be pretty amazed to accept you have anything to do with a church and upbringing I always experienced as progressive and open minded.

          2. Joe the Lion

Who- you’re trolling yourself according to the available evidence? Jonotti’s alright – he’s just a mixed up kid

          3. Jonotti

            Janet, I’m pro-gay marriage! I’m Pro-abortion. I’m still a presbyterian, if a non-subscribing leftwing one.

      1. Don Pidgeoni

You are right, calling it gay “marriage” as if it is not the right way of being married is disgusting. Thanks for pointing that out!

        1. scottser

as one wag pointed out, all marriages are same sex marriages. you have the same sex, with the same person..

    5. scottser

it’s nice to give the missis a break from the washing up once a week, eh? i hope you order fish..

  2. Don Pidgeoni

Which Sheikh are you referring to? Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum? Probably him, yeah. He’s against it.

  3. rotide

Couldn’t that text be advocating a yes vote ?

Don’t people pray for good things as well as sinners?

  4. Murtles

Sooooo the more Big Mac’s I eat, the more Yes votes will be passed? Challenge accepted.
Ma go git me my eatin pants!
