I know you dont normally do this, but my co-worker’s bike was taken from her, out of her hands, in the Lidl Carpark in Ballyfermot [Dublin 10] on Monday evening. The bike is a Giant Liv Avail 5 (as above)
I wouldn’t email only that she is doing a charity cycle (Maracycle from Belfast to Dublin) for the elderly this week. Was anyone around there on Monday? Stolen right out of her hands by two teenagers, a new low…

Anyone?

Dublin needs The Equalizer, I tell you Edward Woodward wouldn’t put up with that carry-on.

I really think it is time to introduce forced labour jail based schemes for criminals like these.

it wasnt said seriously manolo- when is the next humour seminar? You should really attend one someday!

I didn’t think it was funny either, just badly expressed trolling. Perhaps you should work on your communications skills (or lack thereof)

Chill Davey, I was looking for someone to give out to and you did me a great service. Well done, all good. Peace!

            Peace brother!
Next time, ill just insert faux outrage instead, pondering what has happened to society!

Seen a girl on one the exact same on Wicklow st 30 mins ago. Brand spanking new.

    Sorry for your loss.

Scumbag. What would you know. These little knacks are in the minority among people in Ballyfermot. Just as wholesale tax evaders are the minority in Dublin 6.

Criminals come in all shapes and sizes and from all parts of the city.

        1. nefD6

Criminals may do but ‘little knacks’ and scumbags that go around stealing in plain sight tend to be found in certain socioeconomic areas. I lived beside Ballyfermot for a number of years and can safely say that ‘minority’ is quite a stretch.

If you don’t believe me I suggest carrying out a simple google news search for ‘Ballyfermot’ and ‘Dublin 6’. Let me know how those results go.

I witnessed an attempted hijacking on Gardiner Street Lower just a month ago, guy ran at girl on bike sending her flying sideways into the traffic, he could easily have killed her, thankfully she was ok just very shaken and in tears, several cyclists gave chase however and the guy abandoned the bike further up Gardiner Street.

We need a War on Scum. All types.

If the street scum like these see the suited scum getting away with everything, then all bets are off.

What colour are the handle bar straps i am fairly sure I saw a bike like this today. But the handlebars were not black.

The young lad on it was cycling on the path and i remember it.

    1. Lorisgirl

Hey handlebar strap was black. It was my bike, really hope something comes up. Thanks everyone who’s keeping an eye out and Brian for bringing it here.

In fairness the people around me when it happened were the best. Offering tdrive me to the garda station and one man even ran after those little shits.

Proof that every place has its good people.

      1. Lorisgirl

And by purple I meant people. Good people…

Fyi, a few more details. My bike has a rear carrier which is not default for the model, toe straps and a black bottle cage. Any info is very much appreciated.

        1. obriendj

Ah the handle bars were a reddish orange colour.
Sorry bout the loss – doesnt help that they took it from you.

But if they keep getting away with it – it will keep happening.

Hopefully the new Garda scheme to drop decoy bikes around Dublin with trackers in them and track these lads home will work, but it probably wasn’t a great idea to announce it with great fanfare. Although it doesn’t look like its orgnanised gangs, just everybody is a scumbag these days.

Maybe the correct approach would have been exploding bikes or (to ensure the safety of surrounding people), a big long spike that shoots through the seat when sat on, thus impaling the rider hopefully until he bleeds too death?

The sooner the better Lidl start selling baseball bats. I miss the old days, when crap like this was sorted in a few hours.

  9. AhHereLeaveItOut

Maybe we can get bikes that have saddles that scan your bum and take a bumprint, and the chain will lock if another bum attempts to ride the bike. And then, you could have the bike ooze a very strong adhesive from the saddle, so the person is stuck with the bike on their bum. And electric shocks from the saddle into the bum. And maybe some more bum-related devices

Saw an ad on FB last week for a new ‘Bluetooth’ lock (You unlock it with your phone, it’s solar powered and it alerts your phone if anyone moves the lock). Made me wonder why no one’s come up with a built-in solar powered GPS device on bikes. Of course, you may not want to walk in to the den where your bike has ended up…

Or how about a drone/ light aircraft that circles the high crime areas of the city constantly filming the areas in very high resolution from 10,000 ft… so when a crime like this happens the footage can be examined later.

This already happens in parts of USA for civilian crime but was developed by MIT for Iraq.

Just to say – if you need to borrow a bike for your charity cycle, you can take my spare one. It’s a Lapierre road bike of similar kind to the one you had nicked (possibly a little bit better) and it has just been serviced. I’m 5’8 and the bike is a little small for me so if you are anywhere close to that in height it would work for you.

    1. Lorisgirl

      thanks so much!!
I managed to rent a bike similar to mine from the bike rental in Phoenix park today, so at least it’s still happening!

  13. JunkFace

You can’t have expensive bikes in Ballyfermot. There’s loads of marauding thieves there, mostly teens, some in their 20’s. In general most people can be nice but not the young fellas. Just don’t have anything snazzy or expensive in the area. It will be stolen or vandalized.

  14. Peter Dempsey

Nice to see a couple of realistic posts from nefD6 and JunkFace.

You can spot the infantile middle-class-and-I-hate-myself posts a mile away – the lads who start moaning about “SUITS” and “BANKERS” in an attempt to deflect blame from the working class. Thieving, racism, homophobia, violent crime – all gets a free pass if committed by the poor.

    Grow up.
