Further to the arrival of God’s Anointed New Generation [GANG] to Dublin.

Went to [trade union] SIPTU about the play by a Christian fundamentalist group in the theatre in their HQ [Liberty Hall]. The staff are lovely and very honest but let’s be totally frank letting a bunch of religious people who in my opinion brainwash poor addicts with religious crap and call gay people “special needs” is just not on.
I met a rep from SIPTU (who was also gay) but I am not impressed. Just because as he said to me there are people who just dislike gay people and it will always be a fact, my response is so what, does not mean we have to tolerate it. It’s only for one night and they didn’t know, that I can accept but think of it, what would [Jim] Larkin say?
I asked could they cancel it but on legal advice they can’t as this Victory Outreach place would ‘take them to the cleaners ‘.
In one last moment of pure parting shot I phoned Store St cop shop as they were running on to traffic handing out leaflets and thus posed a danger under the road traffic act. Ill lodge an objection via my union tomorrow. No one should have to tolerate this medieval bollix…
Yesterday: The GANG’s all Here

Fair play to you Fluffy, you can’t do much more than that.
fair play lad. this lot are a shower of goons and no mistake: did you stay for the ‘play’?
https://dialogueireland.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/receivers-say-they-were-impeded/
:)thanks :)
…without firearms.
Fluffy, if these guys are as bad as you say they are, then it should be no problem to find an example of them being nuts and not have to lie about it.
Although we consider homosexuality to be immoral and contrary to biblical teaching, we affirm our compassion for the homosexual and lesbian. We desire to help those in the gay community who have special needs and are searching for spiritual answers. We must remember to hate sin but love the sinner.
If you read that and genuinely thought they were calling gay people handicapped then you are blinding yourself a bit.
Meanwhile, continue denying people freedom of speech, that always ends well.
Anything that makes me a lesser person in the eyes of society reinforces hate. Thats where people think wrong, the freedom of speech is not absolute, it is counter balanced by the need for a fair society where everyone is equal. Special needs in modern parlance is indicative of someone whom needs to be helped when in reality we are just like everyone else.
There was no way in any circle of hell I was reading through that document apart from just searching the word ‘special’ so enlighten me, How exactly are they making you a lesser person in anyones eyes?
incidentatlly, the handicapped do not have total ownership of the words ‘special’ and ‘needs’.
In the civil rights movement in the USA, words such as “nigger” and other words were used as racial ephitets and reinforced the idea that black people were not on equal footing with white people. Language has a powerful way of influencing thought and attitudes. Its why feminists would argue that calling a woman a c*** dehumanises them as it seeks to take away their humanity. If you would like to meet for a pint over the weekend I can happily explain it to you, e mail your number to broadsheet and I will describe for you what its like to be called fag, gaybo and other such words. I handle them with humour but others are not as thick skinned.
The offer of meeting for a pint is a serious one too :)
well this escalated quickly.
I’m completely up to speed on what you are talking about, I’m just unsure if you are comparing the word ‘nigger’ to the phrase ‘special needs’ or if these lot go around calling people ‘faggots’.
Like I said, I didn’t read the document but from what i saw the word ‘homosexual’ was used.
In other news, I use the C word indiscriminately so the wimminz should be happy with that.
mate they’re also implying gay intimacy is a sin, and the ‘sinners’ need help. I’m straight but this is total b0ll0cks; the worthwhile fruits of your free speech?
‘Equality of opportunity – hell, yes. Equality of outcome – I’ve never heard of anyone escaping TO Cuba on a tractor tyre.
Hear, hear Fluffy !
You should pen a play about Christian Fundamentalists and their adoration for celibates and how they are going against the natural order of life, and how they are, and must be considered in the same way the church sees homosexuals, if not worse than, for they, the celibates, ‘choose’ to go against procreation as opposed to being naturally brought into this world as a gay human being.
(Use of language like *’worse’ is just to reflect on the Christian fundamental perspective of gay persons as being ‘disordered’. I don’t see it that way myself.)
I too will be writing to SIPTU for their ignorance in supporting, giving air to, this disgusting group of parasites who make additcs work 18 hour days and call it “rehab”.
Thank you for highlighting it.
Anytime
Im hoping others write in too, lets make sure they dont forget…
+1
…these cults seem to be making a resurgence…not be long now to we hear stories of sons/daughters, brothers/sisters running away with these particular clowns.
This lot even formed a football team
http://www.soccer-ireland.com/dublin-football-clubs/victory-outreach.htm
Traders used to make a few bob selling penny trumpets outside of performances by notorious Scottish poet, William McGonagall. Someone ought to have tried a similar venture at Liberty Hall.
Quality work there fuffy. Stick it to those fascists.
You’re throwing the F-word around with what used to be called gay abandon while alluding to the desirability of ‘routing out the sky fairy (followers)’. Live and let live, baby!
i’m all for live and let live, but those sh1theads can fuk right off.
I am not all for live and let live, let these fuppers take a foothold and you will never get rid of them. Drive them into the sea I say.
Saw a fight near SIPTU entrance from the top deck of 14. Both parties ended up on the road in front of the bus. A woman broke up the scuffle shortly after. When the bus started moving, hiphop reaped the air. Didn’t know what was going on until read about the GANG.
And thumbs up to Fluffsky.
On a side note: there were a few publications in the press about increase of tourists coming here. Wonder what percentage of these are religious safari parties.
Cheers people :)
Did anyone else read the line “A person who commits sexual promiscuity all week and then confesses her sin every Sunday opens herself up to sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, guilt, emotional trauma, abuse, and so on.” So I guess it is only a sin if the ladies do it.
And don’t forget that the “guilt, emotional trauma, abuse, and so on” only comes from these Christian Fundamentalists… it’s amazing how proud they are of their ill treatment of others.
Well, I suppose, at least I can sleep at night knowing that anyone who supports these fundamentalists is going to be headed straight for what they call hell.
And good for you Jebus, for sending them there !
They are also against dancing. “Therefore, Victory Outreach opposes social dancing because it can potentially tempt good people into evil behavior.”
Kevin Bacon would be fuming if he wasnt so preoccupied with his 4G interwebs.
Hit the nail on the head there
If they do it with sufficient enthusiasm then yes, yes it is.
SO Fluffy, it’s religious crap because you don’t agree with it. Tolerance only works one way does it?
If you don’t like it don’t go!
If Irish people had the same attitude towards the honosexual community that you have towards religion the marriage referendum would have been rejected.
a) They are welcome to practice their sky fairy nonsense somewhere, just not in Liberty Hall which a bastion (or supposed to be) of tolerance and acceptance and not belong to groups who hate minorities
b)Tolerance if you are so keen on it then they should have no problem accepting homosexuals.
Having a go at a tenet of one fundamentalist religious group is not the same as attacking religion ya spanner.
Now, getting to Fluffy’s point about how Victory Outreach are filling addicts’ heads with “religious crap”. It is a proven fact that that is what they do do…. google it.
They don’t have any processes in place for carrying out recognised practices that reduce harm to addicts in their approach to getting them off what ever substance they are addicted to… they have no proper detox facilities, have had addicts die unecessarily in their care, force addicts to work up to 18 hours a day out in public when they should be receiving treatment, have little or no qualified counselling whatsoever, have no preparation or follow up procedures with addicts (which in properly facilitated centres for addiction can be up to two years), and lack so much more it’s too much to get into here…. but instead fill the time of their patients when not collecting money for this so-called charity run ridiculous prayer groups and other “religious crap”.
My own family has had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with addiction, and been through the process, and let me tell you from experience these guys are snake oil salesmen preying on the weakest in society and our taxes are paying for the lining of these scumbags pockets (they take most if not all dole money off patients to pay for “treatment” ).
Fluffy is right…. they do fill addicts heads with “religious crap”. Next time you have outrage, get your point right.
‘If Irish people had the same attitude towards the honosexual community that you have towards religion the marriage referendum would have been rejected.’
ahem. if me auntie had balls she’d be me uncle.
carry on
nobody’s born religious, Ollie. ‘cept maybe Jesus.
And according to this crew god made them that way so that they could spend their entire lives denying the desires he gave them, learning to suppress them and live with them through thanking him for making their life so painful and confusing.
I’m very tolerant. I tolerate a lot of things.
But I don’t tolerate people going around calling me disordered, campaigning for me to be treated as a second class citizen, reinforcing the attitudes that put me at higher risk of being beaten up as I walk through town.
Letting that stuff go unanswered isn’t “being tolerant”, it’s lying down and refusing to fight back – and if gay people hadn’t fought back against poisonous cults like this there wouldn’t have ever been a marriage referendum – we’d still be f**king illegal.
I don’t know if you have some part of you or your lifestyle that makes you a target for people like this – but if you do, do you give people carte blanche to do anything to you so long as it’s a faith-based prejudice they have?
Talk about getting your knickers in a twist.
Some people just won’t be happy until everyone thinks they way they do.
Twenty years ago the Anti-Fluffy would’ve been trying to close down a gay show or pub or something. Maybe you shouldn’t stop to their level. Don’t you believe in freedom of speech at all?
So we should allow hate to spread? Yeah because that worked out so well in Rwanda where propoganda was rife
You’re comparing your struggle against a show in the Liberty hall to the genocide in Rwanda?
You are trying to create a strawman argument here to deflect from your lack of adequate response…
I’ll ask again, as you didn’t respond just there – You’re comparing your struggle against a show in the Liberty hall to the genocide in Rwanda?
And you’re saying “Some people just won’t be happy until everyone thinks they way they do” in defence of an evangelical christian group.
The world’s a crazy place to be sure.
No, Just sayin’ he did not compare his “struggle against a show in the Liberty hall to the genocide in Rwanda?”
He stated how allowing such propaganda to become permissible and accepted in public, can, and has, lead to persecution of homosexual persons in Rwanda.
He never mentioned the genocide, but spoke of one group persecuted in that time.
Glad to clear that up for you.
We’ve had centuries of religion oppressing Irish people to the point where sex and sexuality are laced with guilt and confusion and intelligent, well meaning people of our parent’s generation are happy to stay quiet in the face of child abuse, rape and murder.
We don’t need an influx of evangelists trying to undo the progress that has been made in the last 20 years in rejecting this guff.
Fairy tales are for children.
+10000
They are a backward bunch and you are right ReproBertie that we dont need their teachings in this country. I read through most of that mess of statement and a lot of it is utterly shambolic. They seem to tick every lunatic rambling box from No evidence for evolution to HIV was sent by the devil to get gays and promiscuous people. They are against gay marraige and see homosexuality as a something that can be cured. They shouldnt be let in the country in the first place.
It is probably a typo but they say that the earth travels around the sun every 24 hours aswell.
Seriously, think about stuff before you write it.
If a religious group try to close down a gay event – they’re doing it because they hate gays, not because the gays pose a threat to them or have a single-purpose to do away with them or are spreading hate and lies about them, or are campaigning to do away with their civil rights.
It is a completely flipped situation where the group the event organiser are trying to oppress, suppress and criminalise (gays) object and protest against that group having a f**king recruiting event.
Honestly, that’s really understandable, if the gay part is getting in the way, try black people and replace this crowd with the poxy KKK, the point still stands. One group exists to harm the other, the other is just trying to get on with it’s life.
More Power to you Fluffy!!!!
Fair play Fluffy….
SIPTU rep is probably right on the legal point (less so on the ‘ah sure, bigots will be bigots, what can you do?’ bit). The theatre in Liberty Hall operates as a commercial venture. Assuming this crowd are paying for the venue, not getting it for free, refusing to hire the theatre out to them on the basis of their beliefs would open SIPTU up to legal action under Equal Status Act.
Doesn’t mean their views deserve any respect, doesn’t stop anyone complaining to Guards if they thought it would hold up (probably wouldn’t) but I wouldn’t blame SIPTU for it.
