Ah here.
The crying stairs.

Y’er a wizard Stephen!
at least there’s room for an owl cage.
and an aul Daz box
Yeah, cheers Jeremy Corbyn!
I think you’ll find we blame the immigrants for housing.
Don’t let the hipsters off the hook.
Its in Clapham, so immigrants. But white ones so I guess that’s ok? Although they could be white hipster migrants which would make the Mail explode.
People literally need to stop using the word literally when it’s not really necessary. Actually does the job just fine.
It’s also misused in this case.
Really? I’m literally delighted you pointed that out. Thank you Paolo.
This is literally the best advice ever.
I literally burst my sides laughing about that.
I laterally fell off the chair (and am now lying on my desk).
i’ve told you a million times to stop exaggerating
Very true, if it was indeed literal, you might reasonably expect that it would be written somewhere.
Actually he said “literally”, not “literal”, but anyway it does not have to be literally literal to be “literal”, it can actually be verbal.
How do these people sleep at night
Quite cosily under the stairs I imagine
I’m guessing this is a wind up.
Deffo a wind up.
No one in their right mind would rent a place like this.
I was paying about £500 a month for a room in a shared apartment in Hammersmith.
Even the bog standard “granny flats” wouldn’t be much more than € 90 week.
Really?

Someone will pay because its London and its expensive. If you just sleep and work would you be bothered?
I’ve got a pretty big double bedroom just off Shoreditch High Street in a 3 bed flat (no living room) for under £600.
People living under stairs aren’t doing property searches right.
That is a decent price. London property high five.
And, you live down the road from me!
It’s a steal! It’s been 520 for the past 2 years, going up by sixty next month, well happy! But in fairness when I moved in it was PLASTERED in black mould. I fixed it up and charged the landlady like.
Ah sure put the kettle on Don loveen till I bring over a bag or two of me Bewley’s Gold Blend and we’ll head down the Royal Oak for a warm ale!
We keep finding places with nice landlords, then they sell. It’s poo. Moved every year we’ve been here!
I’ll bring the biscuits!
.We had a scare last year though, she delayed our new agreement for like 3 months and sold the flat next door, had mortgage surveyors in, we were pooing it we’d end up out on the street looking for an 800/month single room!
In estate agent speak “cosy”
He has, wonder if it’s anything to do with the Vice article: http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/london-rental-opportunity-of-the-week-who-wants-to-sleep-in-a-bed-under-the-stairs-707
“In every neighborhood there is one house that adults whisper about and children cross the street to avoid.”

This is the advert http://www.london2let.com/rooms/to-rent/clapham-SW11/L2L13385-101/
“We are looking for a friendly, open-minded and outgoing person to join our houseshare in a great period house in Clapham. We’re a good bunch and like to chill out a lot together – not really looking for somebody that just wants to stay in their room. Room comes with a bed. Bills to be shared – approx. £60 per month each.”
How could they stay in their room?!!
I would like to think it’s a wind up but nothing would surprise me in London.
Why do people bother moving there to simply throw away their wages??
Because its amazing.
Living in london was perfectly encapsulated by the members with ‘solitary confinement’
Yes! And its sister song, The Sound of the Suburbs. Kinda hard to tell them apart at this remove. ‘Every lousy Monday morning Heathrow jets… etc.’
But it all sounded so exotic to us here, back then.
People are doing this in Dublin.
Because it’s Laaaaaaandaaan baby.
Have it!!!!!
Let me get that for you….
Because it’s Laaaaaaandaaan baby.
Hand it over!!!!!
In fairness, Buckingham Palace is pretty central and has decent heating.
Is this the guy from Slanted@Enchanted?
Totalious Ridiculouso!!!
I was in London in the 90s, looking for somewhere to live.
Through an agency I ended up in Earl’s Court, where an Indian gentleman became very irate at me laughing at him for offering me a room about twice the size of this one for £80/week. (This was the 90s, remember. That’s like a million Euros or something in modern money.)
Anyway, this ‘room’ was at the top of four flights of stairs that were so narrow that it was impossible for two people to pass each other on them. If you met someone halfway one of you had to back down, or back up.
It was a death-trap.
Landlords are not human, they’re parasites.
Landlording is not for the fainthearted but many are decent people who treat you fairly.
Besides, lots of people want to rent.
Without regulation there will be a drive to the bottom and by necessity landlords must compete to maximise return.
It’s business ethics, certainly, but not parasitism.
by necessity landlords must compete to maximise return.
Who are they competing with?
Each other perhaps?
That’s a great game to be able to play.
When you win you win, and when you think you aren’t winning you simply move the goalposts.
My experience of Irish landlords was in Rathmines.
It wasn’t in any new ‘apartment’ ‘bought’ by some eejit who thought he could pay the mortgage with the rent he was going to pull in, and now finds he can’t afford to maintain it.
-Don’t get me started on those F’ers.
I’m talking about nicer people, the scumbag landlords of Rathmines.
I just want to make that clear, okay?
