    The reality is…
    The fiscal space …

Politics is simple. If your doing well you vote FG . If your not. You vote other.

    1. classter

Dunno, even if you are doing well, there are lots of reasons to consider voting for somebody else – key amongst them all is Enda & his apparent desire to make FG=FF

Blah, blah, blah, we will continue to drive a wedge further between the haves and have-nots in our society. An utter failure of policy from the start to finish. Bland, cowardly and ineffectual. Get out.

Are they still talking about cutting taxes? Where is the money for all these extra public sevants going to come from?

We’ll be hearing about the ongoing ‘recovery’ from all the talking heads for the next few weeks. Problem is, there is no recovery. There is freshly printed euros loaned at near zero interest to billionaires who buy back their own companys stock, giving the stock market a major boost (it’s a bubble, in fact, that will deflate once the free money spigot gets turned off) and giving the false impression of a recovery. The quantitative easing and hoped for ‘trickle down’ effect has not worked. In fact it has backfired. The jobs the government has claimed to have created (I thought business created jobs and not government?) are mostly schemes and low paying service/ call center type jobs. Everyone else seems to be enduring hard times, there was near panic at Davos this year. Yet we are supposed to believe that our guys are steering us right? They’re lying AGAIN folks. Don’t believe the hype. Vote independent.

None declared in my constituency (yet).

It’s a 3 seater with FG, FF, Labour, SF x2, SD, GP, AAA/PBP and WP to choose from.

The first 2 seats will go to SF and SD with the 3rd being a real dog fight.

      Ha. No.

Recovery-deniers are hilarious. You can argue that it’s not happening to everyone, or happening in disadvantaged parts of the country, but you can’t deny that it’s happening. Enjoy wallowing in your misery!

I have a question and since this is one of those fluff ‘lolz look at enda the big stupid head’ type of posts, I’ll ask it here

To all the people saying ‘vote independant’ or ‘I wont vote for FG or FF’, what type of government do you think is possible if everyone votes this way? Would you have faith in a SF or PD led coalition featuring every independant voted to the dail?

I’m not nessecarily saying that’s a bad thing (well yeh, i am, I think it would be terrible) but I’m just looking for reasoning beyond ‘no more cronyism and lies etc’

      1. rotide

So you would rather the party that caused everything we are now seeing rather than the party dealing with it?

        1. Tish Mahorey

The party ‘dealing with it’ are just overseeing the Troika programme which was agreed with Fianna Fail. So really the party who started the recovery were in fact Fianna Fail.

Fine Gael are office clerks who simply manipulated the programme to punish the less well off by enriching their business backers and increasing inequality, division and hardship. They are anti-social and show open contempt for the fellow citizens.

They introduced a Capital Gains Tax exemption for property owners which no Irish media outlet cares to mention. That will cost the state billions in tax over the next several years.

          1. Tish Mahorey

And rotide entirely ignores the main point of my comment because he’s knows it’s true.

It’s very Fine Gael to mock one point and then ignore all the rest of the content.

          2. Kieran NYC

It’s very FF to make up a bunch of lies and present it as fact. You should consider running for them, Tish.

          3. Nigel

But Tish is not wrong. Bear in mind that the recovery as we know it is being achieved under the lash of austerity with all its attendant injustices, inequalities and FG’s uniquely incompetent spin, so yeah, FF kicked that off all right.

Several Fianna Fail TDs are already on the record as saying that they would not go into Govt with SF, largely because they have problems with the idea of murdering people that you don’t agree with.

    1. scottser

i think it would be an interesting experiment, particularly on the big questions such as the repeal of the 8th where a TD won’t be constrained by the whip system and is free to vote on issues of conscience.
granted, the place for local government is the local authority – if they greater authority you probably wouldn’t need independents in the dail to represent on purely local issues. but i’d love to see the end of the whip system – it makes a mockery of democracy.

      1. rotide

Didn’t even notice I’d typed that , alphabet soup making rotide crazy.

        I meant SD.

        wait, or DL. or AA?

        JESUS SOMEONE HELP

    2. Nigel

I rather suspect the best we can hope for is an effective opposition laying the groundwork for a viable alternative future government. The worst we can hope for is an an anarchic bunch of cluelessly narrow special issues candidates being played off each other by cannier political operators to their benefit but the detriment of the country as a whole. Yay.

  6. pissedasanewt

I prefer to see.. “we’ll provide 10,000 more Garda, Nurses etc or i’ll give up my dail pension”.. “if we don’t get unemployment below 7%, Richard Bruton here on my right, will give his right arm..” etc.. back up promises with consequences for failing to deliver.

If I ran for election i’d just promise i’ve give everyone that voted for me €1 million each. Grand stuff.. no need to follow through on any of that now that i’m elected.

    1. 15 cents

exactly … Its become the norm now. They’ve all decided themselves that its commonplace to lie to get elected and we’re meant to be all cool with it because they said so, and we’re a bunch of thickos who shouldnt even be sticking our noses in. we should just blindly vote for the best catchphrases and buzz words. The only honest ones are the Soc Dems. Literally everyone else is making up empty promises.

“Working Family Payment”? Meaning we increasingly subsidise the rich, in this case employers rather than landlords. Sheesh.

  9. Truth in the News

It used to be “fiscal rectidude” now its “fiscal space” maybe it should be “fiscal
inepitidude” and they ran the briefing in bunker, funny Kenny or Harris didn’t
mention draining the Shannon, incidently Fine Gael and Labour hope to form
the next Government, where’s their programme for Government for the next
5 years or even the next year.
