Siptu picket at Red Cow Luas station this morning
From Stillorgan and right into town,
The whole of our tram network’s down,
Now the poor middle class,
Must trudge through cold grass,
As they walk into work with a frown.

There was a poet called Moynes
Who force fed odd couplets to rhyme
His metre was off and his phrasing was soft
And yet somehow he made a dime
What’s the sneering at “the poor middle class” about?
The Luas Red Line serves Tallaght, one of the largest working class areas in the country.
What’s the middle class anyway? Everyone I know in the middle class, which is most of us, works very very hard.
Lovely morning all the same☺
How’d ya make that face then Happy? :)
I got a new keyboard for my phone called Fleksy, which is brilliant by the way, and it was just on it so I pressed it. Didn’t think it would actually show but it has!
Cool :)
And would many driver not be deemed middle class? what’s the cut off?
moynes knows what buttons to push to get a reaction
Lol
So true
Divides the morons & conquer!
Up the workers, down with the greedy bosses.
Up early the workers to walk or cycle to work.
It’s the SIPTU skip to town!
Do-dah do-dah daaaaaaaaayyyyy!
most middle classes earn as much as these glorified van drivers.
Driving a van would actually be a good deal more difficult, as there is more entropy in driving on the open road than on a track that only interacts with with other traffic occasionally.
(There is nothing wrong with driving either a van or a Luas for a living, but asking for a 50% increase for doing a relatively low-skilled job is taking the mick, IMO)
Train drivers earn more. Hence the strike.
Train drivers are also in a position to hold large swathes of the public to ransom, so it could be argued that their (over)payment is a reflection of this.
Well I keep hearing about the Poor Commuters in arguments against the Luas strike so they evidently have the same leverage.
push go, push slowdown, push stop push open doors, push close door….repeat.
45K?
45k doesn’t go far these days – and it’s certainly harder than your job, whatever it is if you can be online commenting all day
I enjoyed this burn
Rob_G above makes an excellent point. who asks for a 50 percent raise these days?
It would seem clear to me that contracting or outsourcing the operation of this service is blocking the ability to resolve this dispute.
My 7B bus driver was telling me that if the new proposed Luas line has an accident on College Green the whole city will shut down! ” ya cant divert a Luas , you can a bus”
