Electric Picnic
September 2nd-4th, Stradbally Hall, Co. Laois

Here’s what you may need to know…

01. The biggest weekender of the summer has finally announced its first wave of acts this afternoon in Dubland. It goes down September 2nd-4th at Stradbally Hall, Co. Laois. Sunday day passes are already sold out, and weekend tickets are going briskly.

02. The blockbuster headliners include the Chemical Brothers, the newly-reformed LCD Soundsystem, and alt-pop songstress Lana Del Rey.

03. Further up on the bill are new-wave legends New Order, US indie-rock wunderkinder Haim, Animal Collective, Broken Social Scene, Super Furry Animals, and rising stars in the form of Savages and Blossoms. Also of interest is the announcement of Belfast post-punk outfit Girls Names, whose Arms Around a Vision was one of the Irish albums of 2015.

04. Also on the bill: Years & Years, Nathaniel Ratliff & The Night Sweats, Wild Beasts, Glass Animals, Todd Terje, Jack Garratt, Gavin James, Wolf Alice, The Avett Brothers, Pantha du Prince, Phosphorescent, Ezra Furman, Mount Kimbie (DJ set), Daniel Avery, Aurora, Nao and Meilyr Jones.

Verdict: As expected, heavy on the crowd-pleasers with some genuinely big names atop the bill and amid the announcements, backed by a mix of Irish and international independent talent. Could use more of the former, mind. Looking forward to further announcements.

Haim are not headliners, pretty certain New Order aren’t officially referred to as headliners either.

On the initial poster, yes. That doesn’t make them headliners though, as seen in previous years, and at the launch earlier they weren’t headliners, LCD, LdR and the Chems were.

darnit. I would love to see LCD Soundsystem but not so much that I’m willing to camp for three days for it.

Thank fupp i already went to see New Order at FF.

    LCD soundsystem though….

And I said I wouldn’t go again after last year.

    Crap.

Same conundrum. They’re unbelievably unbelievable live but last year was a bit grim. My campsite was a ghetto, even when we ventured further up to the quoted Janis Joplin site it was still knackeragua. Body and soul & lcd would’ve been perfect :(

Up the where of who wha?
Ah yeah, I did see a quieter side of it near the campervans alright. It’s the overall experience though. There were a lot of clowns there last September unfortunately

rehashing previous acts, jaysis there are loads of acts out there that have never played at EP. I’m out this year.

The Chems played there 9 years ago? Pffft. Why would I bother going then. It’s not like they’ve released 2 albums since then or anything.
