The rents are gone crazy in D8. My brother is in the process of renting his apartment out. He put it up on daft for €1150 he’s had about 300 calls in the first few days, he took it down and has it back up for €1300 and still loads of calls. Jesus in the height of the boom I was only paying €850.

13% increase because he could. How nice of him.

It’s insane. By increasing the rent, your brother is part of the problem.

Hey now, if it’s OK for Luas drivers, trian drivers and bus drivers to strike or threaten strikes for more money why isn’t it OK for Anomanomanom’s brother to look for a few extra bob for himself too? It could be argued that you’re just jealous and looking to oppress Anomanomanom’s brother to satisfy your own begrudgery.
coco
I didn’t say it wasn’t ok. I just said it was the type of behaviour that is contributing to the problem we face.

HA! The Moystian argument perfected
Anomanomanom
Well clearly there is no problems because hundreds can afford it, so if supply is not enough move out of the city and use your saved money on travel cost. Simple
coco
Problem solved.
Anne
Your brother sounds annoying and greedy.
coco
No, he was forced to increase the asking price because supply and demand.
Anomanomanom
No he wasn’t forced, he’d just be a complete moron not to do it. As I said 100’s had called and could afford it no problem. And the same when he put the rent higher.
Anomanomanom
How so? Same as a 5 star hotel costing more than a b&b. Are a pub in temple Bar charging more than a normal local. They charge the upper market price because 1000s can afford it and will pay it and get what they can afford. If you can’t afford D8 or similar city location then live in ballymun or talk agar and bus it to work.
Anomanomanom
talk agar ???? Tallaght.

Anne, direct your ire towards Fine Gael/ Labour please.
If the owner of this property has a mortgage (which he probably has), he’s paying twice the European average on mortgage interest AND 50% of his profit to the government.
Also, Alan Kelly spent most of last year banging his rent cap drum while knowing that this would be unconstitutional. He admitted as much on tv last night.
Oh but it’s easier to pick on someone who got off his ass and tried to make a few quid ins’t it!

Even assuming this is a type-o and its meant to be €1,500, this is still a complete rip off.
€1,500 obviously.
Awful decor. So cheaply fitted out.

“Oh landlord, oh the glorious rent, how it preys upon the marrow in our bones. It scoops the stuffing out of us, and chucks us aside”

welcome to the blushirt legacy
I always admire how you can relate every post to ‘the blueshirts’.
even at 1,500 that’s a stupid price for a slightly dodgy neighbourhood.
I work around the corner from it. Have done for over a decade. I wouldn’t walk there late at night
