    IT: O’Neill’s use of the word ‘Queers’.

    This clown has made a number of gaffs in recent times but this is by far the most offensive. Perhaps if he focused on doing his friggen job instead of making homophobic comments he would get better results. Then again, if that is what is being said in public then god knows what is being said in private.

          My point is, he was studying Law at Queen’s when Forest signed him, he’s hardly your archetypal football manager.

            Queens University has a track record in discrimination and was dragged into the courts on a number of occasions because of breeches of employment law.

            Irony is, if he was studying law it was highly likely that one of his lecturers would have been Mary McAleese and I am pretty sure she will be having words if she has his number.

          Yes there is a serious problem with homophobia in football but that doesn’t make it right or somehow acceptable. Bottom line is, if he made a similar comment about someone’s race he would have been sacked on the spot.

            As for your comments about race they are irrelevant. Continuing the spectre of invoking the race card every time someone makes a throwaway queer comment is not helpful. I’m not advocating a return to the bad old days of Bernard Manning etc – don’t worry. But it does piss some people off when you guys claim to be offended by every single little homophobic epithet while liberally sprinkling your own conversations and heck even your usernames with slurs like ‘queen’ etc.

            You may think the comparison to race are irrelevant but then again, it obviously suits you to do so. There is no difference whatsoever. Sorry if challenges your mindset but that really is your own problem.

            That’s a matter of opinion but I would be the first to admit having never been on the receiving end I don’t really know what I’m talking about. I suppose my personal style is to choose my battles carefully though if you see why I mean.
            I experienced racism once though – in China. That was so absurd as to be laughable.

            ‘Oversensitive’, ‘no sense of humour’ and ‘no big deal’ are just weasel words to force gay people should put up with this sh|t. Young gay fellas walk away from football all the time because of the constant homophobic nicks and cuts. The manager of the national team really should have known better.
