It is his favourite song from the 60’s and remind our family of trips to France on the ferry from Rosslare when we were young, listening to ‘Our Generation’, a 4 tape 60’s compilation
    my parents bought over the phone long before online record shops were even a thing, as we travelled further south through France.

  14. Careon

    For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my father Eddie and play him A Boy Named Sue by Johnny Cash while you’re at it. Hard-nosed and practical but loving in his own way..

  15. The Real Jane

    For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my father John and play him ‘Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag’. Classic misdirection – I haven’t got him a bag at all, he’s actually got a brand new jumper!

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

      @isallimsaying
      I read that as FFS please give the GD Voucher to my dad Shane…
      For that alone I think you ought to win, and then you go and pick a top tune like that….

      I’m not gonna waste me time entering.

  19. Drogg

  20. fluffybiscuits

    ‘For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my friends father Joe and play him Missing by EBTG while you’re at it as his da walked out on him when he was a kid…

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

      It’s really the vibe we were looking for fluffybiscuits.
      Think ‘My old man’s a dustman’ by Lonnie Donergan, but don’t enter that because it’s terrible.
      You could try ‘Daddy Cool’, but you can’t because I just did.
      Look;
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otna9Pe3jWg

      My own father is dead but I’d like to have the voucher given to my Father-In-Law who’s name is coincidentally also Joe, and even weirder still he used to be a bin-man. He quit when it all went privatised but he’s fond of a bit of Jazz.
      So yeah.

  21. DeludedMcDelusion

    For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my Dad Toto Schillaci and “You’ll never beat the Irish” while you’re at it for the that’s in it.

  22. Catherine McEntee

    ‘For Fathering Sunday please give the Golden Discs voucher to badatmemes and play him ‘Hit The North’ by The Fall, while you’re at it.’ He’s a great dad.

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

      I’m flattered, but did you not see the line;
      All we ask from you is a song we can share at 1pm.‘?

      ‘Mr. Pharmacist’ by The Fall would be funnier.

    1. sǝɯǝɯʇɐpɐq

      I was thinking that maybe, just maybe GD thought it might be a good idea to give people a bit more time to reflect, and maybe, just maybe increase the standard of entry in doing so and make this a better competition.

      I could be wrong.
      I could be right.
      They could be right too.

  23. Odockatee

    Lay me down by The Frames because of the line in the second chorus where he sings “And lay me down In the hollowed ground Where my father waits I will stay So lay me down”. It always makes me think of me Da

  24. SunburnedHandOfTheOldMan

    For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my father Ger and play him Why Didn’t You Tell Me You Were Bringing Home A Baby by the Happy Flowers while you’re at it.

  25. Micl

  27. Mark

    ‘For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my father Malcolm] and play him Touch of Grey by the Grateful Dead while you’re at it.’

  28. Me Myself

    For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my father Tom and play him ‘Madonna – Papa Don’t Preach’ while you’re at it because I’m male and gay so it would confuse the hell out of him (the keeping the baby part, not the being gay and playing a Madonna song, that’s fairly standard!)

  32. H

    My Dad has sadly passed so please give the vouchers to my brother Alan and play ‘Miss you’ by Blink 182

  33. Rebecca McGrane

    For Fathering Sunday, please give the Golden Discs voucher to my father Eddie and play him Beach Boys pet sounds in it entirety while you’re at it, cause it’s a savage album and Brian Wilson is a mad b****rd.

  34. isallimsaying

    What gives?

    This is becoming increasingly difficult to track: The title has changed from “You’re Still Young, That’s Your Fault.”, to “Old Man Look At My Life.” to “Dad Rocks.”. This causes dead email links and “This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?” notifications. Closing date was an unlevelled playing field.

    Paternity suit to follow. My father has issues.

    1. Bodger

      isallimsaying and Catherine, I’m very sorry. I dropped the ball on this since last Thursday. I will rectify everything and have the winner announced at midday tomorrow. No excuses.

  35. Catherine McEntee

    Whoever runs these ‘competitions’ are masters in bottomholery and clownology …… What gives indeed.
