Irish Water protesters outside the GPO in Dublin on June 20, 2015
RTE reports:
Irish Water has confirmed there was almost a 50% reduction in revenue collected in water charges from bills sent out in April and May.
The bills relate to services used from January to March and were issued as the Government announced plans to suspend charges for nine months and set-up an expert commission to look at the funding model for domestic water services.
Figures released by the company show that the amount collected in charges was €18.3m, down from €33.4m for the previous quarter.

The €100 conservation grant is now being paid directly to IW to cover their revenue losses. The carousel of bullpoo continues.
I enjoin you all to join the next protest in September. Show these overbearing FF/FG/LAB ‘bubbles on a pisspot’ that the Irish Public will no longer bear being lied to, condescended to and ignored. You self styled ‘Masters of the Universe ‘ do NOT know what’s best for us. Beggars on horseback is the best description of you.
People who pay Irish Water aren’t paying for water. It goes towards the funding of paying for bills to issue. Stop issuing bills, scrap IW and millions will be saved.
Or bring the bills up to a sensible level & allow those who are metered top reduce their bills according to use.
F. EU. and all those who cower behind their ill advised ‘directives’.
Are you listening Phil Hogan, Alan Kelly, Leo Varadkar, Enda Kenny, Michael Noonan, Simon Coveney?
3 anti iw comments in an hour. The blueshirts must be on their lunch break.
We still need a new water system.
No shizz, detective chief inspector.
IW deserves to crash and burn though. Let’s go back to do funding capital investment through progressive taxation and maybe ditch the whole flat-tax model.
The problem with that is that water consumption is to be based on usage. Its the polluter pays principle.
If I fill my jacuzzi / pool in my 5 bathroom house, why should I pay the same as single person with modest shower, a few loo flushes and sufficient for food & washing?
I’ve never needed to call on a cop or a fire fughter for anything? Why should I contribute the same amount of money to their running as people who *have* used them? Also, why should people with no kids, or even just one, pay the same amount of taxes towards schools as people with 3 or 4 children?
Poor trolling, you racist.
That was awful.
F5! F5! F5! F5!
You’re an awful racist. What’s a fire fughter?
Mate. If you want my attention, you need to come up with better insults.
F5!
Apparently I don’t, you simpleton.
See if you can leave this one unreplied to, and prove me wrong :
“MoyestWithExcitement is a known racist.”
Ooooh. This a tough situation alright. Clever boy. Hmmmm. Nah, I think I’ll respond, if only ti ask you to improve your trolling. This is just embarrassingly bad, but I’ve a massive ego so please, comtinue makimg a show of yourself.
F5!
Good lad. Dance to my tune, you confused little child. See you soon, you known racist troll! ;)
See ya you hilariously derranged racist, troll. God, that was satisfying to learn I made such a bitter shut in like yourself so angry. :) Disappointing you had to run away so soon.
All right, I’ll go for it. Troll on!
1. Polluter pays principle is that if you use natural resouces, you pay for them. If you abuse them, your pay more. So if you are chucking out large amounts of unseperated waste you pay a higher charge than those who seperate, recyle and reduce their waste. Same applies to water.
2. Potable water – the stuff that comes out your tap – is a highly prcessed commodity. We can’t drink rain, canal, river, lake or seawater. Only potable water.
3. There are parts of the country that have had boil notices for over 10 years, like Boyle, now fixed by Irish water. Other areas have insufficient supply. Dublin just about has enough for current need. But we have a huge house building need – tens of thousands of new bathrooms, kichens & washing machines. We need to plan for future need.
4. Potable water supply is weather dependent – extremes of drougt or floods put it at risk. Like Cork recently when filtration beds couln’t cope. Climate change will make sure that we have more problems if we don’t sort it out now.
5. Shannon basin flooding ment 20% of this county was flooded last winter. We had no way of pumping excess water to save farms or housing. Pumping from Shannon to reservoir that can be used by Dublin is one way of solving both problems.
6. Water engineering is huge, long term & expensive. We need safe water all day, every day so payment is based on use to ensure that on-going investment is availalbe.
7. If we take down Irish water, don’t pay bills, fail to plan for the future, our system will fail, with health, housing, environment problems that go along with that.
8. We all agree IW introduction was a pigs ear & Phil Hogan’s attitude was a disgrace.
9. The problems are real. We need to deal with them. That includes infrastructure, business model, perception of the threat of privatisation, dodgy business deals.
10. Since 1977 there has been no investment in water infrastructure thanks to FF.
11. Politician’s have made a a mini-career out of water don’t give a damn about water as an issue, only as a vechicle for their little revolution.
12. People who don’t want to pay aren’t the Left – they are people who will vote for anyone who says they don’t have to pay. We are paying, we will pay a much bigger price if we don’t get to grips with this.
And I coould go on. Sick of it at this stage. When, and I mean when, the bills start being sent again, I’ll be paying.
“10. Since 1977 there has been no investment in water infrastructure thanks to FF.”
Isn’t that the real problem then?
What’s wrong with that Gawm fella wha… jaysus !
Worse than me on a bad day.
Ssh. Don’t scare him off.
Hey Clampers,
Have some backbone, tackle this Moyest racist. Your anodyne commenting seems designed to avoid offending him.
Moyest if confused, “anodyne” means “inoffensive”.
Excellent post, DubLoony
If I have 15 kids why am I paying as much into the health service and education system as someone with one or none?
Because it’s what you can afford, based on your income, not a flat tax.
Also, this is a CAPITAL project FFS, a rebuilding of the network – not a charge to cover the cost of production, a charge to build a new means of production. Try and dust off your progressive gloves, here.
also tax is not just to benefit you as an individual, it is to benefit society as a whole.
+1
And it will take about 25 years to do. This is a masive project, on a par with ESB & electrification of the whole country. It is a mammoth task.
If you have 15 kids there is a personal allowence to meets needs.
A mammoth task indeed, one that insists we MUST disregard everything we believe about fair taxation.
Denis O’Brien MUST pay not a penny more than my 80 year old granny subsisting on a pension.
It’s the ONLY way.
“And it will take about 25 years to do.”
So we shouldn’t do it at all?
Shouldn’t someone with a bigger car pay more car tax? Shouldn’t someone with a bigger house pay more in property tax?
The Irish Left are weird.
Tell you what Moyest, you learn how to type and/or spell correctly, I’ll leave you alone for a bit. Your terrible spelling suggests you’re coming apart at the seams mentally.
I’m not going anywhere, just like you. Together we can make broadsheet an advertising no-go area.
F5! F5! I thought you were done with me? Oh, we’ll be having lots of fun in future you adorable little shut in. I know I occupy space in the heads of a couple of trolls here but this is a whole new level.
Hey Moyest. Nobody cares what you think. You silly little racist child. I never said I was done with you – it seems your reading comprehension is on a level with your spelling ability.
You seem to be following me around. Let’s see if I can summon you in some other threads. You can be my little mirror troll.
I think I’ve moved into the bedsit that is your mind. See you soon cupcake.
Delicious troll rage.
Yep, you seem to be suffering from delicious troll rage alright. I suggest a nice cup of tea and a browse of stormfront, you terrible racist person.
Here’s a little test (it’s not spelling related, don’t worry) :
I’ve commented about your racism in some other thread – see if you can resist searching for it & replying to it. Somehow I don’t think you can.
Submit to me. Admit that you have been beaten by a superior troll. <3
Together we can rule the broadsheet comments section as father and son.
This is fascinating.
BTW for anyone else reading this with glee – I am performing a public service here, tying this racist child up in knots in this one thread. I think he can only do the one thread at a time.

Everyone, please donate. The poor lad needs some cash for his world of warcraft subscription.
Ah Moyest, recycling insults now. I truly have you beaten at your own game.
Found that other comment I made about you yet? Itching to reply?
Testing….
Shouting F5 in nearly every post is very poor trolling Gawm.
You score 1 out of an arbitrary 45.6 on the trolling scale du jour.
Hey Clampers
Have a go at Moyest for his trolling, no? Afraid to make enemies? He’s also “shouting” F5. Be consistent.
Don’t think he’s found that other comment yet….
We do. But all of a sudden billing based on use (on top of taxation that was already paying for water*) after spending millions and millions putting in a bad system was a terrible idea.
Why can’t we have a clear system explaining how taxes are spent and where we are short**? Fix the current system not tax people more to compensate for its uselessness.
*Yes I know we’re short for services, stop paying back money we don’t owe first, not tax people more.
**Oh because then we’ll know where they are p!ssing all the money away?
**Precisely !
When IW have to start laying staff off this will all come to a head. The government will either back down or double down. A big turnout in September should help them decide.
I expect Irish water are already hemorrhaging staff. They recently advertised for an IT administrator for the Customer Care and Billing system. If IT are jumping ship then it is pretty much up the creek.
8. We all agree IW introduction was a pigs ear & Phil Hogan’s attitude was a disgrace.
But, being Ireland, we need to forget all about that and happily get in line like good little pixies.
Labour. In a nutshell. Great at bitching about stuff, incompetent at implementation, and a total roll-over for anyone who pats its belly.
I wouldn’t mind paying if I actually had a water meter.
I live in an apartment and the fee is a flat one, what is my incentive to save water?
The way in which most apartment blocks were plumbed means there is no single source for each unit therefore it would have been impossible to meter them without re plumbing the entire complexes. Everyone having a meter was never going to happen.
Are people actually still paying, the water charges, even though they must be aware, unless living in a cave, that said charges are being ehh, suspended.
Posters like the Gawm and Moyest are the reason this site is going to the dogs
I beg to differ TTTMGTR: since Moyest has started commenting many a thread has been ruined, particularly because he’s so contrarian and obsessive in stalking other commenters, and he rarely makes a coherent or logical argument; Gawm is a newbie. When Moyest posts a stand-alone comment nobody replies to it, hence the reason he always reacts and imposes his opinion on others by replying to their comments – he’s best ignored.
Gawm is no ‘newbie’ unless you’re a gom
I don’t know what a ‘gom’ is, nevertheless, thanks for the insight; have a nice day.
The Gawm and Brother B are Anne, you csn see that a mile off.
People really have very sad lives if challenging others is the only thing they feel justified in doing.
I am especially bored with Moyest so here is some advice to you. People post off the cuff because that is what makes this site what it is. It may be badly typed and contradict itself but they communicate, debate and then learn from others.
Everyone curses because there is no edit button.
What they don’t do is run around nit picking previous because that is bullying and oneupmanship is a sign of a very weak person. I suggest you go away, form some grown up opinions rather that hijacking very serious threads about people who themselves may be reading the comments sections.
Ooh bitchy
No mate, far from it.
Now back to Irish Water. The ship has definitely sunk. All that is left is political egos in denial and a cardboard opposition in the form of FF who have no plan as to how the network will be upgraded let alone how it will be funded.
