The Irish have a slave mentality, slaves to the Brits, now slaves to the Germans
speak for yourself
Fado fado, the Irish used slavery and indenture widely. Not only was Dublin a major slave port employing thousands but it was used as a method of restorative justice and even a career choice for those without opportunity. Slavery is more engrained in the national psyche than you realise.
I didn’t know that…

Of course I heard the story of St Patrick’s slavery but I hadn’t thought about it as a widespread system.
Niall Naígiallach (c. mid 5th C.), or Niall of the Nine Hostages (slaves), is the ancestor of the Uí Néills, hence the name, and genealogies show the same relationship; Niall himself was the son of a slave woman, Cairenn, and his father, Eochu Mugmedón.
I don’t know how ingrained it could be today if no one knows about it.
Oh, it’s there, whether you know it or not.. all the nationalist hyperbole is around the slavery/freedom dichotomy. It fails to differentiate between chattel or bondage and voluntary indenture, which was our most common form. It partly explains our stubborn refusal to be seen as anything other than underdog.
…actually you have a point. Also it explains the lack of personal responsibility when it’s all the establishment/government/elites’ fault.
Slaves to the Gombeen man whoever that may be. But it’s usually another Irishman.
Only the plebs have that problem. Descent Irish people don’t.
Too easy.
Ah maggots like you will always feel inferior. The rest of us who are proud to be Irish are able to stand with our neighbours regardless of our history, shoulder to shoulder, not chips in our shoulders. Take those pathetic little fantasies you have there, build a bridge with them and get over it.
The lady doth protest too much, methinks……
Couldn’t even come up with a literary quote by an Irish writer. Tsk.
I like the cut of your jib Nigel
historically the Brits certainly have major slavery industry experience that’s for sure
Haha, parody account strikes again! Brilliant satire! Keep it up!

@Alex: got to love ‘The Scrute’
I like Village, but I hate the Ivana and Conor Lenihan pieces. Why bother with them, they always say the same self-serving things.
Who are you going to blame now, Tories? Your EU bogey man will be gone, soon. Perhaps, the British public will realise how they are rules and vote you out of existence (but I doubt it).
rules should be ruled
Who else is there to vote for? You have sh&* but stable or complete lunatics (UKIP, Labour) or sellouts (Lib Dems). The UK is a total mess but it is very interesting!
I agree that it is a mess and interesting. The first past the post system helps the entrenched parties. An elected Senate, with different voting rules, would be more democratic but that will not happen.
I did like his suggestion for British trains all being painted racing green though.
Ye mean taking Ireland back to the 1950s, cause doubt Uk, with their economy will be going back.
