And all the phone networks are advertising this as if it were their idea and a treat for all of their customers.

Three have found some loophole, which allows them to give you a specific data allowance for use in “Ireland and EU”, which then limits the data you can use while roaming to that allowance, e.g., Bill Pay SIM Only which allows you to use up to 2GB per month when roaming. A bit sneaky, if you ask me.

All your calls and texts are included though, whether you are roaming or at home, for €30 per month.

Here’s a tip for unlimited data roaming in the States; buy a 3 U.K. PAYG sim, top up with £20, register on their site then buy a 12gb data bundle with your £20. £25 will get you unlimited data. Both give you 300 mins and 3000 texts to uk numbers. So if your traveling companion does the same you can keep in touch.

Love it. The EU really does such great work for the consumer. Roaming rates were outrageous.

I got a text about this (from Three) and it says CONTRACT CHANGE at the top. I presume if i don’t like it, I can (given that terms are being changed unilaterally) tell ’em to get knotted and take my business elsewhere?

You most certainly can…my missus done just that, switched to Vodafone and in doing so had my contract uprated as part of her bargining tools.
