It’s absolutely right that the poor should be targeted in this way

illiterate alcoholic sub humans who don’t know what’s good for them

Yup if you want evidence of it simply read FG’s 2011 manifesto where they promise to up the price of alcohol in supermarkets and off license specifically to force people back into pubs, they realised after the election that didnt look good so invented a health angle of which there is zero evidence to support that MUP will affect consumption at all

To Curb Drinking – Tax Alcohol
To Curb Smoking – Tax Cigarettes
To Curb Obesity – Tax Sugar
To Curb Pollution – Tax Carbon Products
To Curb Litter – Tax Plastic Bags and Coffee Cups
To Curb Politicians Wages Falling – Tax Property, Imports, Exports, Transport, Prescriptions….
Great how the Government thinks outside the box to curb these problems

I Know who will be mighty happy with this. Anyone north if the border selling beer. Deluded thinking.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a can of beer.
    There, I’ve said it.
And I only ever bought two-ees of cider as I’m tough as nails.

Wibbling aside, this new tax is ridiculous. Typical.

Incredibly unpopular bill with little support in house and out, make your voice push your email your local TD and watch this moral policing fail horribly

  7. Spaghetti Hoop

Wrong approach. I’ve seen a lot of budgets and campaigns against fags and booze….this is the wrong nannying tactic.I know he’s a doctor, but some people like a smoke and a tipple after their working week and paying of their taxes.
