The ‘Here’s How’ podcast.
Host William Campbell (right) meets Linda Bellos (left), former leader of Lambeth Borough Council in London and a radical feminist under ‘friendly fire’ from ‘third wavers’.
William writes:
‘TERF‘ [Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist] is widely used as a term of abuse by third wave feminists for second-wave feminists, often with extreme hostility and even threats of violence.
Linda was invited, and then un-invited to speak to the Beards Society in Cambridge University, Recently she has been subjected to online abuse and accused of being ‘transphobic’.
Here’s How talks to her about this and other controversies in the modern feminist movement…

I’m grand. Thanks.
Terfs are a blight on feminism and an absolute insult to the word itself. Thankfully, there’s very little appetite for that branch in Ireland. Irish feminism is trans inclusionary and those “feminists” who aren’t need to take a hard look at themselves!

Jaysus, Daisy, that link is some plain speaking! John Bull’s Other Island bites back.
“The term ‘TERF‘ [Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist[ is widely used as a term of abuse”
How is it abusive to call a radical feminist who excludes transgender women a trans-exclusionary radical feminist? It’s a descriptor.
Being a descriptor, accurate or otherwise, does not exclude anything from being a term of abuse; whore, bastard…
Interested that you chose “whore” and “bastard” as your examples, as they are both a form of anti-feminist sex-shaming. As I said below, if you’re a Radical Feminist who excludes our Trans sisters, you’re a Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist.
This is like racists saying “I’m not racist, but…”
+1
What’s the alternative phrasing then? Give me a less abusive way of describing a radical feminist who excludes transgender women than calling them a trans-exclusionary radical feminist.
I’m not suggesting you use an alternative. I wrote “‘TERF‘ is widely used as a term of abuse”, a true statement which you disputed with a logical non sequitur. It also being a descriptor doesn’t invalidate what I said.
And whether I’m right or wrong, I’m not advising anyone on how they should phrase their thoughts.
So is “Tory”, it’s still the most apt word to call them though.
They call themselves TERFs and PERFs. (Penis exclusionary)
some of my best friends have a penis
am I doing it wrong?
feminism ?
TERF is not a term of abuse, it’s an accurate description. If you’re a Radical Feminist who excludes our Trans sisters, you’re a TERF by definition.
Down with nasty TERFs.
it’s Gus Fring!
