FFS, “the lord told her” how do dopes like this person receive even one second of attention?

        1. Murtles

How can the lord be talking to her when he’s working hard to get that US Televangelist €54 million for a new Dassault Falcon 7X Jet. He can’t do both Ciara, he can’t do both.

        2. Bean Dis Hotbitofstuff

You wonder how they even get across the road safely

Just because it was a Yes voter doesn’t mean there anti-abortion brigade go away.
If anything, expect them more, especially wherever the first abortion centres etc… will be.

I really don’t remember anyone saying ‘What part of democracy do they fail to understand’ about any pro choice demonstration since 1983, but maybe i wasn’t paying attention.

I mean I’m sure there were lots of people saying very similar things to the things being said below but just vice versa

I REALLY hope we’re not going to have put up with 1 or 2 posts a day of this stuff. Can we not just ignore them now that we are fully able to ignore them? They will be completely irrelevant until suchtime as society swings so massively that we have another referendum to reinstate the 8th and that isn’t going to happen for a very very very long time

      2. Nullzero

You’re misunderstanding what democracy is. People still have the right to free speech and expression. We don’t live in a totalitarian system, we were voting on repealing the eight, not silencing its supporters options. In perpetuity

It was a glib response to a glib comment. I understand democracy just fine. But thanks.

It’s not Broadsheet it is Ireland
      http://www.thejournal.ie/referendum-posters-ban-4034334-May2018/

There are a lot of reactionary people who don’t understand the importance of freedom of expression, especially that it is only useful if it includes allowing people to express unpopular opinions.
Particularly people want to ban campaigners from hospitals because they don’t like the abortion posters, but they don’t see the risk of establishing zones where free speech isn’t allowed.

Having lost the vote we can expect to see a lot of yes campaigners trying to influence the legislation for months to come.

They don’t want women who are going to be having a terrible, vulnerable time to have to face intimidation and cruelty in order to seek medical care.

They don’t want people who are trying to do their job to be intimidated and bullied every day.

Freedom of expression is protected in the constitution, but it also says there are limits.

      2. neil

Freedom of speech is not unlimited. You can’t run through an airport screaming “bomb” or make false accusations about people on TV without facing consequences.

      3. Bob

Yes I know there and limits, rights are balanced with responsibilities.

In this specific case I think these tactics are stupid and counterproductive and by letting them protest they look like idiots.

Creating no protest zones could backfire horribly and I think undermining the right to protest is a terrible idea and I shudder when they are suggested and they’ve been suggested a lot recently.

      4. Sheik Yahbouti

“We can expect”! Speaks volumes. Democracy just isn’t to the taste of the minority who seek to impose their will on the majority. I have very rarely been on the winning side on the large number of votes I’ve participated in. I’ve had to swallow that, and hope for better in the future. this poster, and his fellow pricks, don’t appear to understand this concept.

      5. Starina

Bob by that logic, it’s undemocratic for the Luas to have a sign saying i’ll be turfed off the luas if i verbally abuse the staff.

    2. Nigel

What part of it don;t you understand? The part where we can’t criticise extremist public displays? Why is it only they have freedom of speech to do this, but nobody else has the freedom to point out how crap it is?

        1. Nigel

Please do grow up soon. We’ll miss your childish ways but your baby talk is embarrassing.

    3. Dinny Do Well?

If it pees off sillies like Mullally, Sheridan, Ingle, O’Toole and co I hope they camp there all year.

      1. Wait For It

And the women who’ve suffered miscarriages or been given diagnoses of FFAs on much wanted pregnancies, they’re just collateral damage in your desire to stick it to them?

  2. Shane Duffy

Of course this question doesn’t to the Brexit or Trump elections. As EVERYONE was ok with those results, weren’t they?

    1. Nigel

No they weren’t. And when people express disagreement those who were for those things are free to criticise them for it. It’s the circle of life or some such.

  3. Junkface

Someone should print out massive Porn images beside them and shout “This is how Babies are Made! LOOK AT IT!”

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

Jaysus, I was advocating that for months! Oh what it is to not be in the ‘in crowd’.

    1. Cu Cullan

That’s why we must fight ignorance and intolerance every time it raises its graphic head..!!

  4. PlumBobSmearPants

This is only to be expected. Just wait and see what Christmas will be like if the legislation is expected shortly after. I wonder when we’ll see the real militancy bubble up and perhaps the leap to actual terrorism and not just the usual emotional kind. Because they will.

  5. phil

53% thats great news, the Lord has finally accepted that he has to let some of us in peace…

  6. KM

You should check out Ciara Sherlock on Facebook. Extremist to the core.

If folks thought a YES or NO was going to end the abortion debate, i’ve got news for you.

    1. Sheik Yahbouti

What would prompt anybody to consult Cora Sherlock OR her ‘facebook page’? The problem here is that she and her kind get far too much publicity. Ignore the effers, refuse to respond to or even mention them. They will eventually wither as the irrelevancies that they are.

  7. Not On Your Nelly

Any mad fundamentalist birds on these things? I’m very lonely. I am willing to hold plastic fetuses for a ride. It’s always sunny in Dublin.

  8. Liam Deliverance

Their tops have the word “Reveal”.

To my right on the opposite side of the street is two uniformed gardai, presumably there the entire time that the Reveal crew is present and presumably to maintain the peace.

To the right of the image is a man with a megaphone, black clothes with brown shoes, couldn’t hear what he was saying over the traffic noise.

Just behind the man with megaphone in the background is red Savita/Yes poster!

As you can see there is counter protestors with the green screens trying to cover the posters.
