not too much make up ladies. it could end up like an Alice Cooper lookalike competition in this weather.
Best of luck with it, that’s a fairly rough route you’ve chosen however.
Scrap that, just heard the reason for that route.
Who is keeping who hidden?
Good point. I never understood this sort of nonsense.
What are you calling it nonsense for so, if you don’t understand it?
The common cormorant or shag
Lays eggs inside a paper bag
The reason you will see no doubt
It is to keep the lightning out
But what these unobservant birds
Have failed to notice is that herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.
do you understand, do you?
That pedantism aside, pip pip for all who marched.

Mental Healthcare isn’t a hashtag.

You’re done with this conversation. We all are.
The comment posted under my name was not posted by me, Bodger or one of the other guys changed my original comment with their usual nonsensical stuff and then I hand-washed my little brown pants in the sink.
Excellent. Great to see. The route of course is chosen to finish in Fairview Park where Declan Flynn was murdered in a homophobic attack 36 years ago.
Also great to see that this parade is a challenge to the Irish Times/12.5% corporation gentrifiers / corporate rainbow capitalism takeover of Dublin Pride from the likes of Facebook, Google, Tesco, MasterCard, Amazon, Airbnb, etc.
“There will be no corporations, no businesses, no rainbow capitalism”

Rubbish – stonewall is a bar in the west village-at the time it was a mob owned late night booze can-there was no riot it was a raid that the regulars, pimps, hookers, johns, junkies and dealers joined in had a go at the NYPD.
What sponsors ?
You’re projecting too much, honey.
Either try the Journal comments section or look up how to submit to Alive in the local RC church.
Was Declan’s family asked by the organizers-did not know he was ‘trans’ this appears to suggest so-the family is local, any thoughts given to them, what with your whole inclusion concept ?
The local youths who were tried for his ‘murder’ were all acquitted, as you are no doubt well aware.
Dial back the hyperbole and hysteria a little, can you name one sponsor that was turned down, and try to respect the outcomes of trials, given the whole ethos of the ’cause’ is based on RESPECT !
now johnny that’s you told honey
jesus just kicked yo’ ass
Don’t pretend to care about the family then suggest he wasn’t murdered. That is disgusting hypocrisy and an insult to his family.
Four of the men involved pleaded guilty to manslaughter so there was no murder trial for them. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t murder though. If a group of men beat my brother or son to death I know what I’d call that.
This was a deeply homophobic society at the time. Even though this group admitted they had assaulted at least 20 gay men and it was clear that they killed Declan Flynn the judge decided to impose a suspended sentence. It was an outrageous decision. Imagine if it had been a woman who was killed there is no way they’d have avoided prison.
The organisers never said he was trans.
One of those “local youths”, who the judge said came from a good home so he suspended the entirety of his “manslaughter” sentence, raped a pregnant women at a time when he should have been in prison. Murderer and rapist before he turned 30. Good boy, eh? So save us your sanctimony. I’d like to think the Flynn family would support people marginalised and abused like their son was.
At no point did I claim or hopefully imply I was speaking on behalf on Declan’s family, who knows that may have marched, maybe not.
Further criminal acts by the youths aren’t that relevant, but I do think his family should have been contacted.
You need to inform yourself of the facts and respect Declan and his family. However, as you’re not interested in Declan or the concerns of his family that’s asking a lot.
So, for the record:
“Flynn was killed in the early hours of September 10th, 1982, murdered by a gang of five so-called “queer-bashing” teenagers that included a 14-year-old boy. ”
https://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/declan-flynn-queer-bashing-murder-still-very-raw-36-years-on-1.3548395
Declan Flynn ‘queer-bashing’ murder ‘still very raw’ 36 years on
Family want public to know more of Dubliner’s life than its ending in Fairview Park
Those responsible were NOT acquitted.
“Mr Justice Seán Gannon, the presiding judge in the case, sentenced the youths to between one and five years on guilty pleas to manslaughter in March 1983. The sentences were suspended.”
Gannon should have been fired. Gannon is dead now, and cannot be libelled. He was wrong. Judicial arrogance, lack of empathy, training and real-world experience. He was no Catherine McGuinness.
Or, is this the bit that really has you fuming about Declan, come from your own party leader:
“(Flynn’s) memory was also recalled formally by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in an address to the Dáil when he spoke recently about the historical injustices suffered by Flynn and other gay men. Varadkar apologised on the 25th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality to gay men who were prosecuted under the State’s former laws.”
Declan’s legacy to the struggle for recognition of diversity and equality of treatment persist however. His nephew Niall Behan who has just stepped down as president of Dublin City University’s student union, said in a speech at Dublin Castle that his uncle’s death had, “contributed to a greater understanding and respect for diversity in modern Irish society”.
We’re done with Declan Flynn’s murder and the Trans Pride event. The only hijacking of a tragedy and grief was done by YOU.
really ?
this kinda wrecks your whole point, my political views are no secret, you simply made that up.
what’s with ‘facts’ that has you struggling so much.
“Or, is this the bit that really has you fuming about Declan, come from your own party leader
(Flynn’s) memory was also recalled formally by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in an address to the Dáil”
(ps so the family wasn’t consulted about the trans parade/march)
An acquaintance was killed in a well know cruising spot,it came as s shock to many people who knew him.
If there was a match / protest in his honor, his wife would love a heads up,as she lives nearby.
Wasn’t the case built off the statement / confession off a 14 year old in guarda custody – did he have legal rep or parents , it’s a long time ago.
It’s not about the people who carried out the crime. You brought them up and I don’t think anyone else is interested in them. The fact remains that the man was beaten to death.
Great pixs. Shame the “t1ts” one is cropped… what does the complete slogan say?
But the last image and the poster is off-base by a mile. Real women respect trans women, and a real LGBT movement does too.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/feb/09/debate-over-inclusion-of-trans-women-in-women-only-spaces-intensifies
Perhaps Real People Respect Trans People would be better. Whatever though, we practice progress not perfection … and thankfully no commercialisation evident.
Wondering if that “t1ts” poster is alluding to THAT viral Aussie email:

That email is bloody fantastic. Even better if it annoys the right on gang
Idiot thinks donning a suit makes people work harder.
that email was written by a silly. and why do you think the workplace is a suitable venue for annoying the ‘right on gang’?
Looks like fun but any chance I can get a parade ? Fat bald fat and 65
put it in writing to dcc
why shouldn’t you get out there and shake your stuff same as the rest of ’em?
ger, hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may have to add dementia sufferer to your list of attributes
you said you’re fat twice in the same line
how big are we talking here
will I ring for a hoist if you get the go-ahead for your parade?
I’m a big fan of my 600lb life
the lads laid up in the beds with the towels across their privates
just putting it out there
My mistake but no offense Ting you are not as clever as you think you are . I have no formal education but I know a fool and you are a fool .
don’t be like that
only having a laugh
I thought you were a jolly sort
sour as p*ss tho
Your description would not exclude you from the Pride parade, all shapes and sizes. Both parades have said they are for the community and allies.
You can rain on your own parade any day. You’re clearly good at damp patches. Is TheJournal.ie website down or something?
I can only go from personal experience but any Trans people I know, and that includes a couple quite well, is that they are always very well thought out interesting and decent people.
The way they are treated is horrendous. Discrimination in housing and healthcare is just the start and the physical violence is as bad as it ever was for gay people back then. If that is the way someone is then as long as they are happy I wish them the very best and I will support them all the way. Trans Pride to Fairview was right and proper.
And don’t be wasting your time trying to separate the letters of the queer movement, accept that they are not just glued together, they are only different manifestations of the same thing, equality.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miLV0o4AhE4
The only heterosexuals I ever met in the Carpenters club in Belfast back in the day was Jewish Johnny, maybe you could that explain that to me?
“they are only different manifestations of the same thing”
So if ‘T’ represents a medical condition (Gender Dysphoria) what does that say about L, G and B?
That they support trans members of their community.
A hairdresser was sued for refusing to cut the hair of a transgendered person
And proper order
But sadly many people with serious disabling conditions and many in severe pain are waiting and waiting for treatment
So who comes first
…for haircuts?
No, it’s NOT proper order. It’s BS discrimination and prejudice.
Is trangendered hair different? Require special training, tools, etc.
Boo boos
Crap day for them but fair play. Sadly, trans people are in approximately the same place that gay people were in at the time of Declan Flynn’s murder. Hopefully it won’t take the same length of time to pass before they are afforded the same space to plough their furrow that (broadly speaking) the rest of us queens enjoy these days.
Y’all need to read ‘Galileo’s Middle Finger’.

“Y’all” makes me shudder with rage.
Otherwise, interesting book rec Clamps. Must give it a whirl. Thanks :)
“You can’t keep us hidden”
I think the vanishingly small percentage of actual trans people does a much better job of keeping them hidden rather than some concerted effort on behalf of the CIS patriarchy.
I always find it fascinating just how much press such a tiny minority of people get. Not saying that we shouldn’t be as cool to them as any other minority but Falun Gong community must be looking on in utter jealously at the trans media management
You mention the small percentage, I tried to figure out what that might be.
In 2016 the Department of Social Protection published figures that cover the period from 4 September 2015 to 30 June 2016 saying 149 trans people had their gender recognised. That was only in the first months after the legislation but even if the numbers are ten times that it still makes for a small group. The parade coverage said hundreds attended, and I think it’s fair to say that those who show up to a parade in Dublin must be only the tip of the iceberg.
Looking at statistics from the US it suggests that trans people are less than 0.3 of the population there.
Looking at other minorities in Ireland we’ve travelers 0.7%, Asian 2.1%, black 1.4% and others
https://www.indexmundi.com/ireland/ethnic_groups.html
So as you say, it will be struggle simply by being such a very small minority and being overlooked more than any intentional discrimination.
So what you’re saying is that the slogan is correct? This is the second comment that seems intent on criticisng this slogan for being truthful. Seems like an odd take to me.
No, the slogan is incorrect in that there is an assertion that someone is attempting to keep them hidden when in fact they are inherently hidden due to the tiny amount of incidence of gender dysmorphia. If you accept that, then the ‘we’re not going to take it’ makes even less sense.
Yes the main problem trans people face in society is their numbers relative to the rest of the population as opposed to individuals’ personal visibility in terms of their trans identity to their family, social circle, employment etc.
No. No matter what other problems trans people face they also have on top of that the extra problem of being a tiny minority on top of that.
I think that’s why it was so upsetting to be rejected by a small minority if the LGBT community and why this separate parade was needed.
The fact you’re using the term Falun Gong shows you haven’t a clue about the issue and the campaign in this country.
Falun Dafa please.

How are you getting on in the Peoples Front of Judea there sonny?
Overwhelming coverage of this event in the Irish Times I see. Obviously don’t want to upset their corporate digital paymasters.
