Every Child Is Your Child writes:
“As we know, students living in Direct Provision are under-resourced, these are kids whose families struggle to provide even the most basic of needs. Join us as we serve our community by providing backpacks and school supplies to students in need.
“Purchase a backpack/and or the supplies (even a gift card) listed on the poster above and drop it off at one of our drop-off points by the 22nd of August. Thanking you in advance for your continued support!
A constitutional right to education not backed up by law and proper funding.
They are I’m the same boat as Irish citizens
Do you forget that over 3000 children are homeless
The direct provision residents must thank their lucky stars they have a more or less permanent roof over their heads and are not like the family sleeping in garda stations
If this sounds harsh remember the resources are not there for the Irish born so do we put direct provision before our citizens or do we demand our leaders solve the problems we pay our taxes for?
This is a really good thing to do.
On a related note, I would encourage everyone to listen to the Radio 1 documentary about life in Direct Provision, from the point of view of two 13 year old girls. It’s pretty heartbreaking. https://www.rte.ie/radio1/doconone/2014/1212/666539-the-outsiders-our-teenage-life-behind-barriers/
thank you
+1
A good initiative this is too.
