This morning.

Any excuse.

Nice to see the patriotic tie on @campaignforleo. Every little helps…
Nothing like using an English Supermarket (which doesn’t detail the profits it makes in Ireland) tag line to make a point about patriotism.
supermarket choice is the last refuge of the scoundrel
Every Lidl helps :-)
In Ireland we have fondly embraced foreign supermarkets so perhaps it’s apposite
‘We are 28, going on 27’
I dont like him but … “French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron”
He is the President of France, not the prime Minister, that would be Edouard Phillipe.
Spot on Jeffrey.
Bodger, get your edit finger out.
Thanks Jeffry, fixed now. Sorry.
certain now that there’ll be a second referendum. british negotiators are privately admitting that – tim barrow did so publicly at a talk in the lse two weeks ago; olly robbins also known to be in favour.
I’m not so sure. British politics is in such disarray I have my doubts they can get their act together to either negotiate a deal like proper grown-ups or get a second referendum organised. An effective opposition might help with either, but alas. Honestly leave, don’t leave, whatever, just sort yourselves out and start acting as if you’re responsible for your country’s best interests!
I don’t know how that can do a second referendum. Time is running out for negotiations. Do they stop negotiating and spend the time on a referendum? Do they keep negotiating but half heartedly? What if it’s Out again?
cameron’s referendum took a year to organise, apparently and the quickest they can arrange another referendum is 6 months. or as the brits say; ‘six mumpfs innit’
interesting article from sadiq khan on this in guardian last week:
“I don’t believe it’s the will of the people to face either a bad deal or, worse, no deal. That wasn’t on the table during the campaign. People didn’t vote to leave the EU to make themselves poorer, to watch their businesses suffer, to have NHS wards understaffed, to see the police preparing for civil unrest or for national security to be put at risk if our co-operation with the EU in the fight against terrorism is weakened.
It’s time to take this crucial issue out of the hands of the politicians and return it to the people so that they can take back control. Another public vote on Brexit was never inevitable, or something I ever thought I’d have to call for. But the government’s abject failure – and the huge risk we face of a bad deal or a “no deal” Brexit – means that giving people a fresh say is now the right – and only – approach left for our country.”

SssSH! What’s that sound? Not charger anyway.

Can’t say fairer than that.

More people in London voted for Brexit than voted for Sadiq Khan.
His voice is an irrelevance in the Brexit debate.
He is the brexit spokesman for the second largest party in the UK, his voice is very relevant because Labour can kill brexit stone dead once it goes to HP.
You’re talking nonsense as usual.
Keir Starmer is Labour’s Shadow Brexit Minister and therefore ” spokesman. ”
Sadiq Khan is the Mayor of London with no official or unofficial role in the Labour Party.
If you don’t know basic stuff like this is it any surprise no-one takes your contributions seriously ?
Oh look at you Mr Sensitive hurling abuse because you don’t like an opinion. Labour have said that if the Brexit deal leaves British people worse off than now, they will vote against it in which case it is already dead and buried.
Do you have nothing better to be doing with your life than sitting here spouting this nonsense all day?
It’s not an opinion.
You stated the fact that Sadiq Khan is Labour Brexit spokesman – I merely pointed out you were spouting uninformed dross.
And how exactly ccould Labour kill Brexit stone dead and if they could why haven’t they done it already ?
Take your time Googling …
Well he was cited in several online old media websites as being the Brexit spokesman. I can’t be bothered going through my history as himself has sideways tastes in porn so I would get distracted.
Brexit will negatively affect poor people most. Labour, even now, represent the poorer sections of Britain. Of course they will block it because the Tories do not have the numbers to carry it without them. And that is not even considering the number of toffs on the other side who will throw the toys out of the pram. Although the did enjoy the cheap employment rates back in the day after eastern Europe was allowed in.
So once again. Why are you sitting here day after day goading and ranting? Are you paid to do so? Please answer.
I’m not sure you understand the mechanics of Brexit.
The decision to leave – Article 50 – was passed by an overwhelming majority of Tory and Labour MPs and happens on March 29 next year.
There is no vote in the Commons coming up which can ” reject ” Brexit.
May’s trade plans – Chequers – can be rejected but if that happens Britain leaves anyway and trades under WTO rules,as do most other countries in the world.
It’s why the device you’re posting on BS from isn’t European manufactured but still sells in huge numbers in Europe.
Labour has very little influence on the outcome of these negotiations particularly as their leader has been anti-EU for all of his political life.
Sorry to hear himself prefers watching porn to the real thing ….
Mechanics within the human race do not exist. Once more for Jesus, why are you sitting here day after day goading and ranting?
I’m giving you a clear explanation in response to your posts as to why I think Brexit can’t be thwarted as you appear to think it can be.
You may agree or disagree with this.
But you think this is ranting and goading ?
You need to get out more.
Firstly, there isn’t time to organise a second referendum before Britain leaves the EU on March 29th next year.
In order to have a referendum a bill to finance it has to be brought before the House of Commons – as May has repeatedly gone on record to say there won’t be a second referendum this is unlikely to happen.
There is also no mechanism in place to stop Brexit happening once Article 50 had been triggered.
Secondly, there has been no significant upswing in public opinion in favour of second vote despite what the overwhelmingly anti-Brexit media and EU politicians would have you think,as that old hypocrite Cretin Campbell found out to his cost on live TV this lunchtime.
https://order-order.com/2018/09/20/alistair-campbell-torpedoed-bbc-fact-check/
Thirdly, there could be a general election but Corbyn and Labour have consistently trailed May in most polls. If they use their conference next week to call for a second vote to oppose Brexit they can kiss goodbye to a number of key marginal seats in the North of England.
Here’s my view on what will happen – the EU will shift its stance on the backdrop sometime before the emergency November summit and it will be fudged to kick the can down the road.Varadkar will be happy with this.
May’s Chequers idea is dead in the water – plan on a Canada Plus style FTA which is already on offer from the EU.
Much as I would prefer the Brexit that people voted for in the referendum I suspect eventually there will be a last minute deal which saves everyone’s face – it’s how the EU does business.
If anyone thinks the EU will let the whole project collapse because of a row over a backstop agreement which no-one thinks will be needed anyway they’re deluded.
“overwhelmingly anti brexit media” what fupping planet are you on? Then again you read guido fawkes I guess that explains it.
in saying:
“I don’t believe it’s the will of the people to face either a bad deal or, worse, no deal. That wasn’t on the table during the campaign.”
he’s quite correct, though, isn’t he?
Norway lite has been already agreed. It will be last minute. ROI will see large banking debt written off for border. Border is only temporary anyway. Just till we’re happy to get rid of it. The GFA expected 50-70 years. Likely to be sooner now. As for GB – what’s the point in all this. Literally having fupped the ROW they are turning in and fupping themselves. It’s a gigantic act of self harm. The fudge will allow ROI to keep feeding them as they can’t manage that themselves.
Hold on, Norway has not been agreed. Not even close.
The Norway option requires the UK to join the EFTA. For that to happen all four existing EFTA countries, Iceland, Switzerland, Lichtenstein and Norway, have to agree to let them in.
Once in the EFTA, the UK needs to re-join the EEA as they will automatically leave it on Sasamach. Any of the 30 EEA countries, i.e. the EU27, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, can veto their entry.
After becoming an EFTA/EEA country they then have to seek membership of the customs union.
Let’s assume they do all this. Once done anything the UK wants to do to close freedom of movement, i.e. to take back control of their borders, will have to be agreed by the other EFTA/EEA countries (Norway, Lichtenstein and Iceland) as it will also apply to them, and before that will have to be approved by the entire EU27.
Norway lite.. the secret is in lite. Meanwhile, having fupped yourselves good and proper, you can look forward to those great trade deals. The Chinese in particular are looking forward to those negotiations. I had occasion to discuss this with a senior member of their government. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone smile as much.
So lay out to us what Norway-lite entails and how it differs.
This is correct.
There’s no doubt today has been a disaster for May,a Prime Minister clearly promoted far beyond her ability.
Peston has it about right.
