  2. Bonfire of vanity

I was a MASSIVE Queen fan since the ‘Seven Seas Of Rhye;.
I was ridiculed by my peers, including my aunties and uncles.

Unfortunately for them, TOTP came on the the telly in my Grannie’s and Bohemian Rhapsody was a new entry at number 9.
    It blew them away.

I haven’t spoken to any them since.

    True story.

i think we used to knock around together…?

no, scratch that – did a bit of googling. bohemian rhapsody came out in 1975.

I was a massive fan up to the seven seas of rhye
They played at my rag ball in England
After bohemian rhapsody they went OTT
hence how rock became over produced and the birth of punk rock

Not answering in protest. Saw them in the RDS in 1984 and man that was a fantastic concern. They were a fantastic band who made fantastic music.

  4. Bertie Blenkinsop

    Queen were cool.
( not so much without Freddie )

Under Pressure for me because it’s got Bowie too.

    1. Bonfire of vanity

Would your Mammy not buy you a ticket to see them live, or could you not afford to go to South Africa during Apartheid?

Every man is gay for Bowie, even me.

  5. Bonfire of vanity

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Queen.
They were almost as influential to music as Sham 69, but I digress.

Lots of wimmin thought I was gay for liking them

  6. Jibjob

While not massive Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment was Flash owing to its even-more-wildly-over-the-top-than-usual performance for the soundtrack of the kids film Flash, together with bizarre lines from the film such as “Despatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body!”.

  7. Slightly Bemused

Not entering as I was a lucky winner a few weeks ago, so giving others a chance. However, many years ago while still an impressionable youngster some youth group event used the music of Queen to demonstrate different aspects of spirituality. It was interesting. in its own way.

I must admit my favourite Queen moment was the video of ‘I Want To Break Free!’. My mother almost had a apoplectic fit when she first saw it, much to our amusement.

        1. SOQ

Nope but the man in question is alive and well today and shockingly Joanna Lumley for his age.

Portrait in the attic etc. Plus good surgeon, french.

  8. Termagant

While not massive Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment was when I was at a house party in somewhere around 2007 and my mate Gary leapt from a stairs onto a table during the crescendo of Who Wants To Live Forever off Live At Wembley ’86 (possibly the greatest live album of all time), whereupon the table broke throwing Gary forwards right into a wall knocking him out owing to its unparalleled comic perfection

  9. Steve

While not massive Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment was Live Aid owing to its being the best live performance of any band in the history of rock music, except for possibly Queen’s stand alone gig in the same arena the following year. Even today its still an incredible performance to watch; energy, charisma, crowd engagement. Freddie at his finest.

While not a massive Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment, for me, as a kid, and the odd Sunday* afternoon to this day, was the soundtrack to Flash Gordon owing to its fun theatrical camp brilliance and epic vocal, guitar, board and drum pieces …and of course, so many choice lines from the movie on the soundtrack :)

[ You have to do the voices :) ]

Kala: “What do you mean… Flash Gordon approaching!? Fire all weapons! Dispatch war rocket Ajax and bring back his body.”

The Emperor Ming: Klytus, I’m bored. What play thing can you offer me today?
Klytus: An obscure body in the S-K System, Your Majesty. The inhabitants refer to it as the planet… Earth.

*at full volume… up to 11 if you have it :)

    Ah lads……

    What are ye like

    Weeeeeee
    are the Champions
    My friend
    Weeeeee’ll keep on fightinggggg
    t’de end

    That should do it

  12. Anton Chigurh

While not a Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment was its inclusion in Wayne’s World, owing to its headbanging Bohemian Rhapsody hook; we were five guys roaming South Africa in 1993. In a VW Golf. With only one cassette, the Greatest Hits. Galileo Figaro!

  13. Rugbyfan

‘While not massive Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment was_the Freddy Mercury tribute concert in wembley in 1992_owing to the_brilliance of all bands singing queen songs with the three members of Queen, from Metallica singing Stone Cold Crazy to _george Michael singing someone to love. Mostly it was memorable for thespine tingling moment during that song when the crowd sang along with George Michael for the final _lines to the exact tune in perfect harmony . Not often you get 100,000 people singing like that _’

    1. missred

George Michael was in mourning at the time of that gig for the love of his life who was dying of an Aids related illness, saw the documentary last year he was making before he died himself…

  14. Spaghetti Hoop

While not massive Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment was Live Aid owing to its resultant white sleeveless Tee/faded jean fashion explosion. Unisex, but some lads had the tash and a Miami Vice pastel jacket.

  15. scottser

While not massive Queen fan, I believe their greatest moment was ‘love of my life’ from the live killers album. a song freddie wrote for mary austin. imagine you and your engaged are in the process of splitting up and a stadium full of people are singing a song you wrote for her back to you? what a gut-wrencher..

  16. Nicorigo

‘While not massive Queen fan (sic), I believe their greatest moment was The march of the black queen owing to its lyrics, guitar, choir, Awesomeness made song, this is the Bohemian raphsody’s big sister, possiblty the best song by Queen”

  17. Seamus Keane

I like to ride my bicycle because: “You say coke, I say Caine/ you say John, I say Wayne” and it manages to mention fat bottomed girls, which is my second favourite Queen song.
