‘Incapable Of Investigating Themselves’

The Catholic Church in Illinois withheld the names of at least 500 priests accused of sexual abuse of minors, the state’s attorney general said in a scathing report that accused the church of failing victims by neglecting to investigate their allegations.

The preliminary report by Attorney General Lisa Madigan concludes that the Catholic dioceses in Illinois are incapable of investigating themselves and “will not resolve the clergy sexual abuse crisis on their own.”

The report said that 690 priests were accused of abuse, and only 185 names were made public by the dioceses as having been found credibly accused of abuse.

“I want to express again the profound regret of the whole church for our failures to address the scourge of clerical sexual abuse,” Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, the archbishop of Chicago, said in a statement.

Shock horror. Our charming ‘dancing priest’ in the news yesterday for similar crimes.
These stories have lost their shock value which itself is shocking

Its good in away though , up until recently it didn’t sit well, the thought of putting a man of God(tm) behind bars even if he did violently bugger a load of very young boys. Nowadays though, I don’t think the average person would care if a priest was beaten unconscious daily by angry cellmates with a pillow case filled with soap bars and bibles.

Me too, but we are in the minority Speghettio. When it comes to priest convictions, even slick city folk are in the culche mindset. I mean, a priest in jail? isn’t hat a bit excessive for 500 counts of harmless bum rape? Just move him somewhere else so we don’t have to think about it.

Where do we queue? Is there protocol? Also, can I suggest Duracell A’s? Soap is necessary, priests are not.

By now the catholic church should be declared a proscribed organisation and a heavy fine leavied against them for each priest it protected from justice, it has more global abusers than NAMBLA.

I’d like to see some profound and deep punishment, preferably equivalent for every measure of pain caused to the victims.

Of course it’s not just ordained clergy; many associated craw-thumpers have a specific “morality” all of their own:
I believe that the Roscommon solicitor reported on in today’s news had been a church minister and/or reader until quite recently!

This must be the first thread our resident church apologists aren’t here trying to defend the indefensible, progress?
