Shocking that. it was liveable in when it was sold last time.

was it though @Stan? liveable/sustainable for 21st century requirements? did you personally go in there, have a look around & bring your Engineer & QS with you to assess & put a cost on that?
see. I just love the way people get all riled up about old gaffs. like they part own them or something.
any of ye with so much as the remotest idea or experience of actual building construction work would know that place is a massive black hole for money
doing anything with these older places = specialist skills/expertise/materials = lots & lots of money.
touch so much as a wall, ceiling, roof, windows = lots & lots of money.
perhaps ye were all praying that some load€d Lord/Lady barrister type would have bought it and poured another 3 mil into its nice big fat blackhole to make it liveable. but it seems they didn’t.

I did actually have a look in 2010, though without any expertise or professionals, but it was liveable in then. Probably not rentable, but certainly liveable.

and to be fair I suppose it comes down to what your definition of “liveable” in is exactly – you could live in a campervan or a yurt I suppose but I wouldn’t want to personally
I’ll tell you for a fact if you’d had a pro along for the ride there in 2010 you’d have seen significant numbers…whether you could afford that in context of your view of liveable I can’t say
If you can’t afford to put the money in to bring it up to spec you shouldn’t buy it
If you’re buying it in anticipation of the land it’s on going skyward in the coming years – you’re a buppyhole and you’re part of the problem
Biodiversity in the area was depleted by the disappearance of the creeper-clad structure. The new owners should plant a dozen rose bushes in memoriam.

There was an old lady living there until a few years ago.
