Young people are failing to land jobs because their embraces are all wrong, a youth mentor says

When you go to shake someone’s hand
You may think your performance is grand
But too strong or weak
Then before you can speak
You’ve already damaged your brand

    -“How was the interview”

-“Excellent, he was highly competent with excellent extensive experience in all relevant areas. His previous work is of the highest standard and he has exemplary references from a number of highly reputable sources. He is also a really nice guy with a great sense of humour that would be a perfect match for our office”

    -“So when does he start”

-“Never, I didn’t like his handshake”

Oh please, that one one is as old as the hills, playing on insecurities- surprised at The Guardian regurgitating it mind.

Note to HR people reading this- take your competency based interviews and shove em. It’s like a religion now- you MUST believe. It really is turning applicants off.

Best interview I ever seen was from a woman who arrived in with shopping bags in flip flops. She absolutely nailed it. Offered the job then decided not to take it.

The HR kid saying ‘moving on to the next competency’ every 3 minutes was embarrassing.
