‘Not On The Menu’

at

This afternoon.

On Henry Street, Dublin 1.

Members of the ROSA (for Reproductive rights, against Oppression, Sexism & Austerity) movement held a demonstration against sexual harassment.

Rita Harrold, Socialist Party candidate for the European elections (above holding the megaphone), told those gathered:

“Sexual harassment is the norm on our streets, in our homes and in our workplaces.

“We’re specifically calling for the trade union movement to take up the issue of workplace sexual harassment.

“You’re very vulnerable and at real risk if you’re in a low-paid position or your boss or customer is your harasser.

“We’re calling for a €15-an-hour minimum wage and unions to organise in bars and restaurants, so we can stand confidently and say ‘We’re not on the menu’.”

What in the name of jaysus does a €15 minimum wage have to do with sexual harassment…

Rita Harrold is trying to get elected.
These are the policies she cares about.

That’s all there is to it.

Elected for the county council. How’s her policies going to get my bins emptied?

I’m also wondering what competences the European Parliament has for setting Member States’ minimum wages…

            It is what it is.

I’ll be impressed if she gets enough votes to get her deposit back.

She’s taking direction from the Green New Deal types in the states – next is racial equity etc etc.

Things these days are rarely what they present themselves to be. Talk about joined up/intersectional politics.

And speaking of menus, if you don’t like everything on her menu, you are an intolerant bigot, unworthy of constitutional protections.

Let’s not forget that she is using sexual harassment as a platform to canvas her campaign – anyone else think blurring these lines is repulsively subversive?

In general, as women go through life, yes, sexual harassment is near-constant and at epidemic levels.

I must be a right dog. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I was sexually harassed.

Thanks Andy – I have so much Benny Hill running around in my head now but I’m afraid if any of it gets out Rita will be around with her megaphone to tell me off.

you need to start hating boys if you want to keep up with the cool kids. we should determine the gender of the foetus and only let males live if they are significantly disadvantaged….this is the type of level playing field some would be delighted to see.

They really do themselves a dis-service. What does “my body my choice have” to do with sexual harassment, low pay = vulnerability, rape etc.

Shouldn’t they join the union in the first place rather then campaign to have them adopt something.

Also is this just an EU election stunt.

You should repeat that to those behind the ridiculous ads for veganism, the ones that have a woman in the nip on a plate covered in lettuce
