A Limerick A Day

Parts of a ‘full Irish breakfast’ costing €12.50 served on Irish Ferries’ Dublin Swift

If you think that you’d get to eat well
On a ferry I’ve bad news to tell
You will hesitate
To taste what’s on your plate
Once you have a quick look and a smell

What sort of lunatic puts scrambled eggs with beans?

Portion of beans one side of the plate, eggs (of any type) to the other side and if required, you can mix them on toast, but never, ever, ever mix them while on the plate.

Who raised these people? Siberian squirrels?

But to add my own horror story, I took the train to Cork a few years ago and made the mistake of ordering their version of the ‘full Irish’ and it was similar enough to the slop above.

Full English Breakfast advice from Alan: “More distance between the egg and the beans. I may want to mix them but I want that to be my decision. Use the sausage as a breakwater.”

Solid advice from the legend that is Alan Partridge.

That toast needs to go through the toaster another five times to meet my liking.

Seriously though, she is not alone in her criticisms: https://www.tripadvisor.ie/Attraction_Review-g186605-d1466019-Reviews-Irish_Ferries-Dublin_County_Dublin.html#REVIEWS

Customer Service teams look to Trip Advisor for feedback – so important to send your reviews there and maybe reduce the personal information indulged because at the end of the day, they don’t care if you’re tired or bereaved; it should make no difference in terms of meeting service and food standards. A lot of it is also down to poor training of staff and/or Managers who don’t value food quality and still regard paying passengers as navies.

I always put up Trip Advisor reviews for places and to be fair, I always try to make it as positive as possible before mentioning the negatives because its not fair to judge a venue or service as being poor on only one aspect. Having said that, someone needs to be keep hauled the entire length of the ferry for that excuse for a breakfast.

As a result I think out of dozens of reviews, I only have 2 or 3 that are less than 3 stars.

Agree about TA. I’ve posted reviews on other platforms and was later asked by the establishment to transfer it to TA – delightedly in exchange for a free cocktail :) I know a hotel owner who goes mental if somebody complains about a stray hair in the shower but still responds with an apology and improves his service. There are also certain nationalities who tend to post very negative and ‘picky’ reviews and some who divulge their whole personal emotions before getting to the issue. I sympathise with the OP but there is no point in saying anything other than you are a paying customer. She received a rotten plate of food – it will continue unless people complain en masse and objectively.

Stena line used to do the biggest best sausages back in the day on the hollyhead crossing, that and the run/freedom of the ship while my Mother lay seasick was the best way to start the holidays
