Daft comment from a TD. The tender is from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government – they oversee elections. At the very least, several by-elections have to be held within six months. The contract will last 12 months from its award, probably in August. It commits no one to anything. Mid-level officials in the Department of Housing Franchise section no more know the date of the next general election than I do.
