Christ that’s awful – very very dangerous. And just a yellow weather warning issued yesterday – which doesn’t indicate any serious threats to life and property. Granted it was escalated to orange immediately before the flooding but surely the meteorologists had eyes on that ocean swell and increased wind strengths more than an hour before it hit the west coast?

No – I am questioning the timing of the warnings. The authorities could have closed off this sea-side parking area in time, had the swell and storm been observed as having destructive potential a little more than one hour before the waves hit.

Weather forecasting is not an exact science but it will be interesting to hear what change in circumstances led to the late change in waning from yellow to orange

Because it was not Dublin that was affected. Counties outside The Pale, especially on the west coast are not important and do not merit advance warnings. Met Eireann had specifically mentioned Dublin in their rain and wind warnings yesterday but just referred to provinces in the rest of the warnings.

I see from the comments the cinema paused the movies and made an announcement to get your car out of the carpark… too late for some at that point, but fair dues.

The effects of the Yellow warning we got yesterday were much worse than the Orange warning we got a few weeks ago. I was afraid for my roof tiles & my windows, it felt like the whole place would come crashing down around me between 10:00 and 1:00 last night.
