History has attributed much to Griffith, undeservedly so.
He wasn’t there during the Census on 2 April 1911… http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Clontarf_East/St__Laurence_Road/4229/ – must have moved in later in the year.
He wasn’t necessarily the owner; renting was affordable then, and it was the norm to rent your home for many years, or to skip around from house to house.
I wonder when the next census to that will be released online; every now and again there’s a tempting promise, but th’oul tenterhooks are getting faded and blunt at this stage.
