This day 74 years ago – 14 February 1946 – the world’s first general-purpose computer, the ENIAC, was unveiled at the University of Pennsylvania.
One of its six primary programmers was Kay McNulty, who was born in Co Donegal and had emigrated to the US with her family. pic.twitter.com/AXiDsld4gd

yesss!
yet another example of an Irish person showing subjectmatter mastery and discipline leading capability on a world stage
maybe some day we will shake off the fear of trying for the summit (or at least relegate it to an insignificant minority)
btw happy St Valentines Day to all!
Hon’ de’ Mná
Let us all mná’s for thought ….
She left Ireland when she was 3.
I mean, good on her and everything but I hardly think that Ireland can take any credit for her achievements. In fact, if her dad hadn’t been in prison she’d probably have stayed in Donegal and become a skivvy.
This is one of our less dubious claims for famous Irish Americans; I think we can safely claim Gaeilgeorí who were born here.
She’s technically British though!
On a related note, the ‘Her Story’ series on rte jr is absolutely lovely. My wee one adores it. Gorgeous animations and nice little vignettes about women overlooked in Irish history.
