Never Let A Virus Go To Waste

at

You may have seen this one coming.

This evening.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael released a joint statement saying the two parties have held “constructive discussions” and now they’ll begin “in-depth, detailed talks” particularly with “the onset of Covid-19′.

More as we get it.

    ROFL.
Mickey Martin and his ‘Brexit’ excuse now has turned into a ‘Virus’ one. And Varadkar will have to be second fiddle.
Work away lads – the end of FFG in government is nigh ! Both parties will be eaten from within.
SF will take over in a short while.
    ROFL!

    (did a i say ROFL)

so they had a talk about having a talk? sounds about right. flutin’ around playing silly buggers for decades is exaclty what people are sick of. continuing to do it shows they know no different, and won’t do any different. ever.

  3. Kingfisher

This is very foolish. If 700,000 people voted for Sinn Fein and they’re gypped out of a place in government, people are likely to turn away from voting and democracy.

    1. ReproBertie

After every election there are thousands of people who didn’t vote for the government. More people voted for a FFG combination than voted for SF. If SF want to join FF or FG and set up a government will the people who didn’t vote for SF & FF or FG turn away from voting and democracy?

      1. GiggidyGoo

I didn’t see anything on the ballot paper to say that a vote for FF or FG was a vote for a FFG government.

        1. ReproBertie

Aw, do you not understand coalitions or how governments are formed when no party gets an overall majority?

          1. GiggidyGoo

You wrote ‘More people voted for a FFG combination’. No they didn’t. I know you find it difficult to comprehend even what you, yourself, has written.

          2. ReproBertie

Well then allow me to rephrase for clarity. More people combined voted for FG & FF. The rest of my point stands.

          3. GiggidyGoo

Or, alternatively, more people combined voted for SF and FF, or SF and FG.
What you think is a point, is not a point.

          4. ReproBertie

FFS. Did you even read the post I was replying too? Or just see it was me and jump in to have a go?

          5. ReproBertie

I can’t believe I have to explain something so simple to you. Especially when it’s all there in front of you.

Kingfisher expressed an opinion that the people who voted for SF would be a bit miffed if FFG formed a government. Understandable since they got the highest percentage of votes.

I pointed out that, combined, more people voted for FF & FG than voted for SF. I also pointed out that SF could form a government by joining with FF or FG, and that the supporters of the party left out of government would just have to accept that.

Now, is that simple enough for you?

          6. GiggidyGoo

you wrote that more people ‘voted for’ a FFG combination. they didn’t . they voted for one party they’d want in government . Not a combination.
If you meant to write something else, you should have done so, but the attraction to try put a spin on an election result was too difficult to pass up. Duck and dive all you want, but your post is up there.

        2. Honest Joe

It was only a few weeks ago that FF and FG were tearing strips off each other in the Debate before the Election. Now they’re the best of buddies!! Hypocrisy is definitely alive and well

      2. Kingfisher

True, but a major swing to one party like this is a big statement in a democracy. These voters need their votes to give them representation. Three-quarters of a million out of a vote of… how many? is a heck of a tranche of the voting public.

        1. ReproBertie

While it was a major statement it was still only 2.3% more than FF and 3.6% more than FG.

          1. GiggidyGoo

If you’re of the opinion that it was a protest vote this time, what do you think it’ll be next time if the FFG axis of corruption have another love-in?

          2. Rob_G

It’s gas all these people claiming a subversion of democracy for a party that netted one-quarter of the possible vote.

    2. Dr.Fart

there’d be marches if they keep SF out. but the FFFG cartel know they can use covid-19 to tell people they cant march. thats why theyre tryna appoint themselves gov. now, hoping people wont march. and then over time when the virus is gone, itll be too late, theyre already in. that is their plan. slimey little do nothing snakes.

      1. ReproBertie

If SF can’t do a deal with anyone else to form a government but FF or FG can then so be it. That’s how politics works and having a march won’t change that.

          1. ReproBertie

If the people elected in the last election can’t form a government then we’ll be doing just that.

          2. Dr.Fart

we will and always were going to get a renewal of FG/FF just given another name. It’s “coalition” now instead of “confidence and supply”. Another five years should really finish the job FG were doing, of turning ireland in’t a money pit for foreign investors while citizens die and struggle to keep afloat.

AIB not letting it go to waste either. Sneaky announcement that they are removing the free banking facility for people with over €2.5k in their account, and they will now also charge you for using your card to tap for payment.
Revolution or N26 is your man.

EBS Money matters is fee free too and without the need for minimum monthly lodgment or keeping a certain amount in the account. I’m so glad I left Ulster Bank after their fees went from €4 per quarter to around €10 a month… And employing Elizabeth Arnett (ex Irish Water). I’m determined that she will have none of my money!

  5. newsjustin

I’m fine with this, even though I voted for neither party.

I’d prefer existing Ministers who know and understand their departments tackle the response needed to Covid-19 rather than having Sinn Féin TDs who didn’t even think they’d be elected do it.

The FFG Supply Con Job rumbles on. Meehole will finally follow in the FFootsteps of such luminaries as Clown, BBBertie and Il Duce.

  7. Iwerzon

I think the difference is when you compare this Dail to the last Dail – a rise to 37 seats by SF and a drop to 35 by FG are two different things and should be weighted accordingly in my opinion especially in the situation we find our selves in. Does a mandate depend on the bare numbers received or should they be contextualised against the previous election results? A vote for change, as everyone knows, was a vote against FG and they should shuffle off stage left to the opposition benches.
