Go To Your Room

This afternoon.

A message to the kids.

It’s like being grounded for doing nothing wrong.

I hate you.

This message is also doing the rounds on WhatsApp

“Message from consultant respiratory paediatrician at Cork university hospital.

I hope you all stay safe during this difficult time . The children will get through this no problem .

Paediatric hospitals are empty in Italy at present after 3 weeks of school closure as the usual viruses stopped circulating .

Remember with corona children are vectors  not victims. In most epidemics young children are the transmitters .

Therefore for school closure to be effective it’s really important that the kids aren’t mixing with other kids while out of school . They will give it to each other silently pass it on to our loved ones. What we do now will contribute to how this develops in Cork .

Avoid situations that the children will interact. If the community respond to this it will shut it down more than anything we do in hospital .

From my experiences in the hospital this last week I would say that corona virus is closer to all of us than we realise  and the degrees of separation for all of us is getting narrower . I’m not that good at social media but if this could be shared as widely as possible with parents in Cork it will help. This messsge needs to go viral to stop the virus .”

It was Clampers, I also witnessed people dismissing it on social media. Even though the advice seems most sensible, and I’m sure well meant, it does not come from a named medical professional. I hope the above one, that does come from a named medical professional, is passed around with as much frequency.

There is also another similar message, coming from an Irish lady based in Italy, that has also gone viral. Again, well intentioned, and not necesarily incorrect information. But that has also been knocked back by some.

One simple option for parents who have kids in pre-school and now have nowhere to send them – parents have to work, grandparents aren’t an option.

The pre-school is closed, so the childcare workers are probably out of work right now. Your kids know them, they have childcare qualifications, they will be glad of the opportunity to get some extra work and money.

Might be an option at least for some.

This does not mean you are to lock your kids away and not allow them to the park, the beach, a walk or a cycle.
It means you are to reduce social interactions with people outside your family.
So please no panicking when you are out for a jog and you see kids getting some fresh air, they are as much of a risk as you are.

If you have a car get them to throughly clean it, which will allow them to reflect on the hard work their parents go though to have such luxuries and how leaving fingerprints and licking the window is not socially acceptable in a persons car and as they vacuum the biscuit crumbs they dropped they will conclude that had they not of dropped them like their daddy ask them to do they would now not have to clean them.
Or just buy Lego on line, Lego have free plans on line that can be downloaded.

Maybe someone could explain this one to me- why do people bring cute pictures of their children into a workplace?

It wouldn’t be so bad it they were recent but little precious in the fluffy is now a non binary queer internationalist with a Black ‘n Decker hair cut who wants to self sterilise- and save the planet obvs.

It’s a sad self-affirmation thing: Look at me, I can pro-create. They also put “Baby on Board” stickers on their cars.
Oh…ok, I was just going to bash into you until I saw that.

      Because Tusla have the rest?

On the other hand…. having the kids take out a bunch of coffin dodgers and boomers seems like reasonable socio-economic justice.
