Criminal Courts of Justice, Parkgate Street, Dublin 8
This morning and this afternoon.
Some legal proceedings are continuing at the Criminal Courts of Justice on Parkgate Street, Dublin 8.
How’s that going?
Got sent a picture from the CCJ. It looks very crowded and there’s no distancing going on. Very unsafe for anyone in there.

Just by way of example, there are 80 of us standing / sitting around on the corridor / landing around the second floor. That obviously doesn’t include people in courtrooms. If told in advance what time slots we were due for, we’d at least be arriving in staggered numbers. #CCJ

Central Criminal Court sitting for case management which could easily done by email. No notice of list being staggered so everyone had to cram into court to be told orally. No hand sanatiser in/near courtroom. People here from all over country. Mess from @CourtsServiceIE #COVID19

I feel sorry for the prison guards, their life is hard enough at the moment without having to deal with cases @CourtsServiceIE could have adjourned wholesale / dealt with by email. Obviously bail matters are urgent, but routine matters still being dealt with @POAUnion

Oh.
Anyone?
UPDATE:
The Courts Service has acknowledged a ‘glitch’ in the situation this morning in relation to the criminal courts and how they’ve been dealing with #covid19 pic.twitter.com/6MX6Aniapo

They’re courting trouble alright – but I’ll let them be the judge of that.
the issue of the prison wardens leads one to think about the prison population in general . Release short termer’s ? release the elderly? where to ? Nightmare scenarios and nightmare decision-making
From the mouth of someone who works in the prison service over 120 prisoners were released last week and more due this week from the countries prisons. These are mainly short term, non violent prisoners. I can see the point, if Covid got into a prison what do you do?
If there ever was a good side to the virus..
you don’t sound clever
Why has not Right Hon Charles Flanaghan shut the system down since last
week of course the legal profession has to be kept in the privileged pedestal
the occupy and of course they and the Judge’s are immune to infection
The only convicted criminals who should be imprisoned are those who present a possible violent threat to others: Other cases should have their finances, goods, property, or whatever is appropriate, confiscated by the state.
