And the propaganda continues- the inference being that anyone who has concerns about 5G is a conspiracy wingnut and / or a celebrity airhead. The mixing of this small group and the majority opposition is deliberate- even the use of the word ‘conspiracy’ is loaded.

Except the scientific community are far from being in agreement over 5G. One group of interest is beekeepers because some believe it kills bees by disrupting their physiological functions and if no bees, no pollination. There is questions over other bugs and possibly bird deaths but again, as this thing is being rolled out at such an aggressive pace, environmental scientists need to do a lot more research.

Brussels is the first city to block 5G but they most certainly won’t be the last. They are cutting them down in Hong Kong too, but that I suspect is because they fear the Chinese will use the millimetre waves for crowd control. Just think about that one for a moment- deliberate radiation so powerful that it is painful on the skin.

Well I for one am absolutely shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you. To think that the Chinese Regime could be making hay by sending poopy PPE around the world in an attempt to make cash and kudos from this disaster that they helped birth. Shocked. Who knew the Chinese Government were so untrustworthy? Oh, that’s right, almost everyone.

    1. f_lawless

But there were no reported issues with the PPE donated by the Chinese authorities. The problems arose with some of the orders made with private Chinese companies. Since then, new regulations have been introduced by the state to avoid a repeat and to try and mitigate the PR fallout for China – PPE must be both certified in China and comply with the standards of the importing nation. I notice you didn’t mention the 100s of medical personnel that have flown from China to help fight the crisis abroad. How does that fit your theory?

I suspect this is closer to your underlying feelings, right? :-

“Who knew the Chinese Government were so untrustworthy? Oh, that’s right, almost everyone”.

Thanks for putting a finger and vocalizing what bothered me about that statement.
I’d like to take this moment to say my Chinese landlady has been dropping veggies to my door, gave me facemasks out of her family’s stock, has stopped electrical and internet bills
        pretty decent behavior

      2. newsjustin

No lawless. It is exclusively the Chinese Government I loathe. Not Chinese people.

    2. jamesjoist

The anti-Chinese propaganda nature of this post would lead one to think that it may have come from pro Trumpite, the phrasing of ending is liking to an adolescent attempt at sarcasm, it pervades Tumbler etc . The “Del Boy” type operations which undoubtedly contributed to shoddy output have been closed down . Incidentally , China has exported 2 Billion face masks , 2,000, 000000. we should be grateful.

      1. newsjustin

        I am not pro-trump. In fact, I am anti-Trump.

        I am not anti-Chinese people. I am entirely, 100% anti-Chinese government.

I’m actually quite surprised people are fans of the Chinese Government on here.

A wild and precious life ☺️

The Summer Day, by Mary Oliver

    Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
    Who made the grasshopper?
    This grasshopper, I mean–
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down —
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
With your one wild and precious life?

      1. Janet, I ate my avatar

no, is that’s where it’s from, a friend sent it to me this morning, we were meant to be spending the weekend together and I thought it was a lovely start to the day, so I thought share the good vibes

would you recommend Love in Store ?

        1. bertie blenkinsop

Myself and Lady Bertie were watching it this morning, the guy in it keeps on referring to it…
No, I wouldn’t recommend it as such, it’s a formulaic Hallmark movie but it’s sweet and good natured and an escape from the doom and gloom that surrounds us at the moment

It’s a nice poem, I looked it up myself during the movie, thanks for posting it and sharing the love…

Just coming up blank on my phone : (
I thought the blank post was deep comment on the state we are all living in.!!!

  4. Amy

It’s so hot outside. The temptation to ignore the advice. Needless to say we’ll all stick to it, but today’s going to be difficult.

    1. Janet, I ate my avatar

Hot ? have you a thermometer handy to take your temperature, I think you’ll find it’s mild, or are you mixing up Europe and Hibernia

      1. Newname

Here it is glorious blue skies and sunshine, and we have been on lockdown for over a month. The nerves are fraying a little by now. I just want to go outside and walk somewhere beautiful for an hour….

  5. Lilly

Newstalk’s Ciara Kelly seems to have breezed through her illness. Pity she couldn’t blog about how she managed it instead of blathering on about cancelled holidays and the like.

    1. Cú Chulainn

The woman is a marvel to medical science. I’m surprised the WHO haven’t sequestered her to run tests on finding a cure.. why, if you could bottle that woman..

      1. Lilly

Seriously, I’d love to read something helpful from someone who’s over it. Claire Byrne’s account of what she was dealing with was useful. I hope she’s doing well.

        1. Janet, I ate my avatar

here’s the account of two people I know who had it,
one considered himself to have had worse hangovers but quarantined strictly three weeks in Marseilles, now his lady works in a hospital and this fella is fit, swims every day 41
the second case a lot more scary 65 year old hard living lady on oxygen in hospital and saying her goodbyes, it’s a very scary time for her, happy to say she’s showing improvement, and her contacts have tested negative

      2. George

Pathetic stuff. Most people don’t end up hospitalised and Ciara Kelly’s case is not unusual in any way.

        1. some old queen

Apart from the need to make a few quid because she is over mortgaged you mean?

      1. Lilly

I know nothing about her – as a non-Sindo reader, non-Newstalk listener – but in her defence, she apparently has said she’s going to tog out (as Frilly might say!) at weekends and return to practice as a GP. Given that she had four children and a full-time job, this strikes me as laudable.

    2. George

There are many people who had mild symptoms and recovered. One of the first people to have it in Ireland was interviewed. He had a temperature for 2 days and then felt fine after that and was waiting for his tests to be clear so he could leave the hospital.

There is no secret to getting through it some people just don’t get bad symptoms.

    3. Matt Pilates

It seems like announcing on social you’re self-isolating or know someone who has contracted this damn disease is the new virtue signalling. Has Helen announced anything yet?

  6. some old queen

Dr Kevin W. McCairn Ph.D who specialises in neurological conditions, believes that COVID-19 attacks the central nervous system. In particular, he thinks that it can affect the part of the brain which regulates breathing so people can literally drop dead or- just forget to breath. As the YouTube link includes experiments on animals, I will not post it- you can search for it yourself, if interested.

Other news- COVID-19 patient zero may have been found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpQFCcSI0pU

    1. George

Trustworthy source there. Some guy on youtube. Don’t trust the media, do trust some random guy…

      1. some old queen

Pretty sure he would be pulled up on it if those documents were not authentic. He makes inferences between job adverts in the Wuhan Lab, the type of work they were doing (human / bat transmission), and a researcher who has now gone missing- all of which is in the public domain.

With that stuff going on in such close proximity, anyone who still thinks that COVID-19 came out of a fish market is beyond naive.

          An’ c’mere Same’Oh

Have you ever noticed how Tommy Gorman looks like a younger, or maybe facelifted, George Soros

          I’m not suggesting anything
          Of course

          1. some old queen

I liked Tommy but he likes Muslim homophobes so- I do not like him.

I do agree that in this current climate we should all wear the burkas mind- especially in Navan as they have two 5G registered masks.

In an act of Solidarity and Green Geansaí and Oró and we’re all in this together
And being a Holy Palm Sunday n’all

I actually bought a Newspaper today

And for the first time since the first case was announced here (29th Feb btw)

I have an uncomfortable urge to wear a face mask

Dublin Tech Jobs for Millennial Ex-Pats Going Down in Flames. No more free food.

“Recent update to visa sponsorship with HubSpot: The impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic is extending to global travel and immigration, where border closures and visa processing suspensions are creating and will continue to create significant uncertainty for our candidates, their families, and our business. Given this situation, we have made the decision not to move forward with any candidates who require visa sponsorship or the support of HubSpot to maintain their current immigration status. We will closely monitor information being provided by all relevant government bodies and health organizations, and will revisit this decision in early June.”

    1. Janet, I ate my avatar

that’s for new candidates coming in, anyone with a current visa or a visa that needs extension with an extension of a work permit will be fine
the facts are there are not enough Irish educated enough in these fields to fill those positions
a bit like why my doctor is Indian

      1. Matt Pilates

The tech sector’s role in spreading the virus through extensive travel and socializing needs to be called out.

If they’re all working from “home” in Dublin, why exactly do they need huge offices — or indeed to even be in this country —? Other than the 12.5% of course.

The same tech industry that has done SFA to help except take profit (Amazon, WeWork, etc) for all it’s talk of making the world a better place…

        1. Janet, I ate my avatar

rigggght, and the people at the races or skiing, they were all tech heads, not to mention the hoards of tourists that were coming through Dublin in preparation for Paddy’s…

          1. Matt Pilates

Not mutually exclusive, but skiers (even the one from Wicklow) and the Chelthenham numpties had a role too. Though that has been already noted.

    – Video on RTE News just now of Gardai checking cars. No masks on them, and speaking to people in the car at maximum one meter away.

    – What bright spark has set aside the special shopping times the same for over 65s and medical workers, in Tesco?

I came across this report dated 05/04/2020 by Northern Ireland’s Public Health Agency, titled “Daily COVID-19 high level Surveillance Report for IMT,”

In it, it states: “Cumulative number of reported deaths associated with COVID-19: 63”

But further down the the report, the number of 63 is qualified by this statement:
“Please note, this number refers to individuals who have died within 28 days of first positive result, whether or not COVID-19 was the cause of death.”

Similarly, I read that the NHS includes in their stats those who were never actually tested but are just “suspected Covid19″ deaths.

Does anyone know what set of criteria the HSE have for registering Covid-19 deaths? I tried looking on their website and the gov. ie but couldn’t find anything. I imagine they’ve much the same as the UK’s.

Just a layman here obviously, but why do the TV reports that I see never seem to point out the possibility that the stats for Covid-19 deaths may well be overblown and why do they never make the important distinction between “died due to Covid-19” and “died with Covid-19”.? Giving us these top-end estimates with no added qualification is ramping up fear irresponsibly.

Also, I read that the Swedish and German authorities are now making the distinction between “died due to Covid-19” and “died with” in the stats they release. Ireland should do the same

    1. Cian

As far as I know we are reporting people that died with COVID19 As opposed to just of COVID19.

  11. millie aka oprah

I spent the day off social media today.
I didn’t read the news, or check my email or any of my social media accounts. Instead I spent the day listening to music and audiobooks with my kid. We got out my old paints and painted for hours. It was one of the nicest afternoons I’ve had in a long time.

    1. Janet, I ate my avatar

that’s sounds absolutely perfect Milly and like a very good idea, good for you

      1. millie aka oprah

The link I posted hasn’t appeared, so I’m not exactly sure what the issue is. It could be on my end?

…just heard bungling Boris has been admitted to hospital and his familiar, Dominic, is also afflicted…nothing trivial I trust…if you’re watching Charger, your Boys are taking one hell of a beating…

    1. Matt Pilates

In fairness, the UK is hardly a hotbed of rational behaviour and social consciousness at the best of times. Whatever.

  13. GiggidyGoo

Going to get my second home delivery of groceries today. Its like Christmas. Can’t wait to see whats on the Jim Bowen list this time.

      1. GiggidyGoo

Can’t claim it’s mine though. My better half is quick with the humour.
