William’s original complaint to RTÉ about AA Roadwatch’s status
Here’s How.
The tables are turned on podcast presenter William Campbell (top left) as RTÉ Radio One’s Morning Ireland veteran Cathal Mac Coille (top right) grills William about his year-long battle with RTÉ and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) over the status of [registered political lobby group] AA Roadwatch.
How did it work out?

It amazes me the amount of drivers who think the AA is representative of motorists and not the motor industry.
I’d say AA Ireland primarily represents the interests of its owners Carlyle Cardinal Ireland, a private investment fund.

Listened to this this morning, it was good. It’s mental when you think about, how much unopposed airtime a lobby group is given on a state-funded broadcaster.
I don’t have a problem with the AA as a lobby group, and their front-person Conor Faulknan (I hope I got that right) seems to be a very fair and balanced individual.
But the level of motor-sponsorship and motor lobbying on media platforms, seems to be at best questionable.
That industry sees hundreds of deaths a year in Ireland and we are simultaneously supposed to be trying to encourage environmentally-friendly travel. I can see a time in the future when our grandchildren consider motor ads the way we consider smoking and drinking ads.
