AIB drive-in-bank on Upper Baggot Street, Dublin 4 in 1961; how it looks today
Brand New Retro tweetz:
“Ireland’s first drive-in-bank opened in 1961 at (now) AIB Upper Baggot Street D4. Officially opened by [then junior minister] Charles Haughey who then drove up to the cashier’s window and made the first lodgement, a gold sovereign.’
Name that jammer (top), anyone?

Triumph 1300 and probably a Triumph Herald
“how it looks today” – my first thought was ‘Closed!’
The car looks to me like a Mark 1 Ford Cortina. Not sure though – working on too small a screen.
Is it a Triumph Toledo?
I think the Toledo and Dolmite were later, very slight varients of the original 1300
Both of them have a vertical separator on the grille. I could not make one out, but screen is small.
It was beyond exciting to visit the drive-by bank with my Dad.
It was even more exciting to see the stripped-back loft apartment of the guy in the first Halifax ad.
But nothing compared to my first Henry Hippo account.
Ah, childhood memories…
Yes! Henry was a big draw to UB for me in the 80s. The account fell by the wayside but I rejoined when I was 17 and have been with them since (not that they give a toss).
Looks like a complete rip-off.
Charlie got a serious rate of interest on that sovereign.
Triumph Herald or ‘Toledo’?
