A LImerick A Day

A statue of slave trader Edward Colston is pushed into the docks during an anti-racism protest in Bristol, England

In Bristol they once honoured Ed
Whose greed left a great number dead
Until a great crowd
Spontaneously vowed
To drop him onto the seabed

I heard a sensible Bristol policeman on the news yesterday defend their non-intervention, explaining that the Cops understood there was ‘context’ to citizens chucking Edward Colston in the docks. This pitted against Priti Patel’s more obnoxious statements on the lawlessness of the rabble.
If citizens were not so intimidated here, Dublin’s questionable IRA statue could be addressed also.

Luke and the Dublineers once performed the Olympia with Nelson’s [column statue] head on stage.
Seems those memorialised aught not take the whole thing too seriously!
