‘One of the world’s top epidemiologists (Sunetra Gupta) has urged Australia to abandon a lockdown strategy against coronavirus and look to the Swedish model of developing herd immunity. ..

…She said if the Australian government changed its approach and let the virus — which 80 to 90 per cent of the population will only get asymptomatically — spread naturally, with intense protections for those most vulnerable, it would in the long term help protect all of Australians from future viral threats and also avoid the most damaging short-term economic impacts for the underprivileged’

Reads like another poorly written hit piece. You’re probably not interested but here’s a couple of examples:

Quote: “Yet since its peak in the third week of April, Sweden’s (death rate) curve has not slowed dramatically, meaning that it could even eclipse Italy and Spain if it doesn’t flatten”
Article was published 22nd June, yet before that even the likes of Reuters were reporting “Sweden records first week with no excess mortality since pandemic struck” on June 8th. Have a look for yourself: https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps#excess-mortality (scroll down to Sweden)

        Another quote:
“Sweden ultimately made a bad choice in balancing public health with economic and social well-being, which has been acknowledged by its chief epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, who now laments his course of action

But that’s a blatant misrepresentation. According to Tegnell himself: “There’s a news story going around that I, and the Swedish Health Agency, think that the strategy we’ve had to fight the corona virus was wrong and that we would change it drastically. But that’s not the case at all. We still think that the strategy was good in general but there are always things you could improve especially with hindsight”.

I could go on but life’s too short as they say!

…I’m sure the Australian Government, like others throughout the world, don’t make any decisions until they’ve consulted the advice published by the medical experts hosted on Broadsheet.ie…

The Australian newspaper is owned by Murdoch. QED. “80% asymptomatically”………so 5 million would get symptoms, 1 million would get very sick and need hospitalisation……….ffs……what rubbish.I am in Australia. We have had 104 deaths. That is among the lowest in the World. What kind of idiot still spruiks the herd immunity rubbish. It might give zero immunity, or perhaps for 40 weeks, according to an estimate I saw. Why would you choose the British/Swedish/US option? If it wasn’t for a SNAFU by some contract workers in quarantine hotels in Melbourne, Australia would be close to zero cases in the whole country. I hope we can get there in a month or two.

Good luck in your efforts to make sense of it all. I can see that none of my input would help in any way

…true f_lawless…I used to think that the constant flow of drivel that you and the other quacks on here post was at best misleading…if not downright dangerous…until I realised that nobody else pays a blind bit of notice…

If you’d only practice what you preach and stop replying. Instead of engaging in any kind of constructive way, it’s just a flow of spiteful ad-hominem remarks – the lowest form of argument. Sorry to say, but you’re coming across as a bit creepy and disturbing at this point

          2. f_lawless

No. It’s a description of the impression I’m left with from your continued ad-hominems. I’m not using it to try to discredit the point(s) which you made in response to mine, because the reality is you haven’t made any.

Covid data improves -> lockdown is working let’s continue lockdown

Covid data worsens -> we have work to do let’s continue lockdown

      Depressing alright.
Celebrating the re-opening of pubs and restaurants while the pearl-clutching Irish papers are celebrating the police cracking down on pubs and restaurants.

Ghislana Maxwell? I had the unfortunate meeting of her dad in 1991, he lived in the penthouse of Maxwell House – atop The Mirror Building. I had to schelp a huge lectern that was tailor-made for Maxwell up to his abode. I really am not a fattist type (is that even a thing?) – he was very fat – his lectern was too small? He had put on, I don’t know how many stones in weight? I was only there to check out this, he was going on tour for a couple of weeks talking about his experiences as a Czech Jewish type in WW11 – this was ’91 – I was a mere early 20ish type. He was abnoxious. His daughter, (Jeffrey Epstein), Prince Andrew et le reste have relied on their privileges of wealth/power to take advantage of vulnerable teenagers to get their kicks. Whatever deal Ghislana makes with the FBI, she’s looking at 30 years. Name names – she still has to do time. It’ll be interesting to follow the names that she will give up.

Amazing that the Express angle is that she won’t grass on the prince. How is that a way to discuss paedophilia? The Express is a rag.

that Torygraph front page is truly bonkers

a show of support and reassurance for the embattled Saxe-Coburgs innit

I really really hope the FBI manage to get to the inside of this ring and hang them, plea bargaining is usually their style so they shouldn’t stop at madame Maxwell however I think its success largely depends on who lies beyond and above her apart from ze prince….

I’m going for “tragic helicopter accident”

Wait until she sees the inside of a US federal prison, she’ll be singing like a canary.

She actually out did her father
He did the pensioners before being bumped off
She is being accused of crimes against children in pimping children

      A truly gross family

I just wonder if she will last longer than Geoffrey in custody for she knows the whole sick details and many powerful people are maybe wearing diapers as she lives these days

Michelle O’Neill apologized for the impromptu selfie. She’s not going to step aside. Michelle’s father and my father and mother are buried next to each other in Clonoe Graveyard, in Tyrone. There’s a monument from 1860 at the entrance to Clonoe graveyard, entitled, “Glorious Clonoe” (Protestants tried to burn down the local Catholic Church – The local Fenians defended – saved the church) -” First in the field, and last to leave”. Michelle’ll be okay.

    1. gerald_w

      How lovely
You forget many of the disappeared the victims of republican murder squads are buried in unmarked ditches and these victims do not have their loved ones tending their graves and their families have no closure

I see in other news that the Washington Redskins are reviewing the name (I thought they were doing that a few years ago)

I would lobby for a change to the Washington Sentinels. They could use I Will Survive as their anthem.

Rapper Zuby has been a major critic of the Black Lives Matter organisation (as opposed to the slogan) and here he is on the Triggernometry channel making some very astute points- a very engaging speaker- one hour long.

    News just in …
Poster who complains about not enough Irish news in Irish editions of Brit newspapers now complains about the wrong type of Brit news in Brit newspapers.
While not living in either country.

      1. Charger Salmons

If they’re rags why do you obsess about the direction of their editorial coverage ?
There are six Irish newspapers in this thread but your attention span was limited to the Express and Telegraph.
For that you get today’s first appearance of the WINKY-WOOometer. 7/10

….was enjoying Nancy and Lee over morning coffee and yes a little THC-I’m fairly agnostic and have enjoyed some the TDS theatre, but we are now approaching 150,000 dead with trillions wasted…time for the adults get the place running again.

And him just back from the USA? Shouldn’t he be in quarantine? Another fine example of the rules only applying to the little people. You’re clearly very comfortable on your knees Spoofer.

          1. ReproBertie

Indignation? Not in the slightest. I get great entertainment watching you proudly demonstrate your subservient attitude to the likes of Farage. It’s not your fault of course, the belief that some people are better than you is just one of the side effects of growing up in a monarchy. No doubt your constant need to appear superior is a direct result, like the holes in your trousers from a life lived on your knees.
