This Christmas.

Give The Golden Age of Dublin.

Ronan Carey writes:

You can’t have spent a day in Dublin without ever spying one of the famous “Malton Trail” signs dotted around the capital. These windows into the past show us what some of our most beloved spots looked like nearly two and half centuries ago.

Created and published especially by the Little Museum of Dublin to accompany our exhibition on the works of artist James Malton, this handsome new book serves a miniature biography of a city at the height of its golden age.

Used to work there, job bridge. Not a nice experience. Needless to say the director pays himself very well.

That’s unfortunate, were you guiding ?
I can recommend a great place if you are looking for guide work when everything reopens, nice team, fair and a good laugh.
Just ask Broadsheet for my email :)

Front of desk mainly, and doing dogsbody work in the office. It’s amazing the amount of money that goes through that place. Most people there had crappy salaries, except for the director and vice director who were making a lot, especially in view of the fact that the Museum is a charity. Felt very exploited, as did a lot of people there. Thanks, have a full-time job now.

You sound a bit bitter there matey. Id say you were a joy on the front desk :-). Glad you found something more to your level.

          1. Toby

It just seems a bit personal to come on and attack an easily recognisable person with no evidence. Bitter and moany. I hope his new employer has a good contract.

          2. Rob_G

I wouldn’t really call in an “attack” – I would think something more along the lines of, say, burning 12 people alive in a restaurant is “an attack”.

The Director of any organisation should be paid well
Otherwise the post won’t attract the best of the best
And that is of no help to the organisation
Or it’s Employees and other stakeholders

      It’s a leadership position FFS

      Instead of whining
      Learn to say one day
And make the most of the opportunity to work and learn from someone who occupies such a senior position
There is as much learning to be had from what they do wrong as well as what they get right

Only take the good things, particularly the learning gained, about the experience with you

BTW, this is a lovely publication, and I wish everyone involved the very best with it
      Congratulations all

        1. put everything on expenses
        2. pay your staff buttons
        3. charity = untouchable

yeah, i could do the director thing..

          1. Liam

The board of directors are not allowed to be paid, but the day-to-day director and vice director are allowed to be paid. On the last accounts, the present director of the Museum earns over 90,000 euro.

          2. V AKA Frilly Keane

Which IMO, is in keeping with the role, particularly in Dublin

And I’m not afraid to say this, that sum you quoted is in the range I would expect myself if I was to return into the workplace in a senior position.

Especially one that is in a high profile, visible customer/ visitor attraction, as well as the responsibility of maintaining the reputation of the attraction, it’s going concern, and having to manage the people who make it work.

          3. Toby

@Liam. The Little Museum has constantly been in Dublins Top 10 attractions. It has won numerous awards. It is a civic and social triumph. €90k is a very appropriate salary for the running of this successful venture.

So, now what’s your point? That they shouldn’t be “allowed” to get paid?

Sounds like you didn’t work out an haven’t gotten over it. Maybe self reflect, educate, try harder. Done blame others for their success, instead try and build your own.

          4. Diane

You’re wrong Liam. The latest accounts say the director of the Little Museum is paid between 100k and 110k. Which makes him one of the highest paid charity directors in Ireland.

          5. V AKA Frilly Keane

            110k?
The highest paid CHY CEO in Ireland?

I don’t want to argue with you there Diane
            But I seriously doubt that

I reckon there are plenty on upwards of 150
Plus extras in the CHY/ NFP sector in Ireland

For anyone who likes Maltons but isn’t interested in buying this book, you can view all of the works in the book in wonderful zoom free of charge at the Chicago Art Institute here. Free of charge – now that’s a great concept for a really civic Museum of Dublin. Just a shame we don’t have one.

You’re dead right Donal. What’s the deal with that museum under City Hall. Is that a Dublin city museum?
