would make you wonder why they havent pedestrianised more streets in dublin. imagine if no cars were allowed O’Connell st after 11am.

What these pics make me miss is all the local shops we had one time

that street is now just mullti-national chains combining a number of facades
      from several orientations
and all with the same corporate look and branding

seriously – just count all the different business there back when that picture was taken, all offering different experiences and personalities

and count them today- and no matter what that number is – it could be just 1 for all the choice they offer

    a Hillman Super Minx maybe?

but more importantly what is the side street?

Anne St? or just a parking garage maybe? I can see Creation Arcade a few doors beyond there so it’s looking down the way I think. hm.

It’s Anne St. Nice white columns there on what is now Boodles – before some bright spark saw fit to paint them black

Going by that rear window, I’m veering towards the Ford Anglia too. The Superminx had rear wings that flared outwards

For the nerds out there it was first registered between May 1965 & June 1966

The Grafton News & Cartoon cinema was a frequent port of call. For a ticket you got about an hour’s worth of cartoons, Pathe News and Gae Linn Nuacht with English headlines. The time to leave was when something you’d already seen appeared on the screen a second time. On Saturday evenings there might be a couple of people giving a recital of folk & ballads.

The red car in the foreground could only have been registered after June 1964 – a year before the Anglia above.

ah that’s a gorgeous and busy street!

I’m torn here. on one hand it looks to me so much nicer than today’s default street furniture, paving and modern facades…I also love the cars

but on the other hand, the cars

I’m the proud possessor of an original Grafton Street green + white enamel street plate that I scored off a council worker back in the 80’s as I ambled home at 4am after Bewleys soakage one fine morning just by being in the right place at the right time and having the presence of mind to ask nicely (they were replacing them with the newer style) will be in the oul will :)
