Bringing #Ireland‘s History to Life. 🇮🇪 🇺🇸
My restored and colourised 1890 Robert French photo
of this stunning road in a place called America in Cloghbrack, County Galway which was once in County Mayo due to a border shift between #Mayo and Galway in 1898.#TheWayWeWere #Galway pic.twitter.com/VgFdKkllNf— Rob Cross (@RobCross247) May 6, 2021

Stone walls and the grass is green…
there’s no way a dirt path is that shade of muck
Very nice.
Why America? Is it the english transcription of the Gaelic name of the place?
By coincidence I was there last year and asked the same question. The place is called America (Baile Mheiriceá in Irish) because when people were emigrating to the US, their friends would accompany them to that point and then say goodbye.
Still giving oxygen to this creep who photoshops smiles onto victims of genocide.. even if colorising wasn’t ahistorical, you should be wary of anyone who thinks mugshots of murder victims need to be altered to make them look “happier”
This really happened? I haven’t seen fake smiles on old photos. Maybe there are so many out there now.
Look up this guy and Khymer Rouge and you’ll see what it’s about.
