If by bioengineering you mean vaccines, then obviously there’s beneficial bioengineering and potentially harmful bioengineering, so it is with geoengineering. I suspect the geoengineering projects that will prove beneficial will be on-the-ground mucky slogs, boosting and protecting and enhancing existing natural processes, as the vaccine does with the human immune system, rather than big and sexy techbro fantasies, which is why they should all be shot into the sun, see if that dims it a little.

I suppose Gates is just being thorough. If he fails to achieve his stated aim of population reduction via the Decade Of Vaccines project, he’ll kill billions by blotting out the Sun. Pity he wasn’t so conscientious with his crappy PC software, which held back the computer industry for decades.
