No idea what started this, looks like a bit unnecessary on the guy they were arresting.

But there’s two aggressive drunk lads – pints in hand – making matters much worse and creating a threatening scene for the Gardaí. They’re as much at fault for the escalation as the Gardaí are.

Separately, I’ve just looked up the Public Order act https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/justice/criminal_law/criminal_offences/public_order_offenses_in_ireland.html
… and it seems to cover the Gardaí perfectly well here:
“Failure to comply with the direction of a member of An Garda Síochána. It is an offence if you do not comply with a Garda’s request to stop behaving in a way that they believe is endangering people’s safety, property or the public peace”

So the Gardai were well within the scope of the law to tell people to back off in this instance – they appear to be entitled to assert/’believe’ you are behaving contract to keeping the public peace.

No harm, but how does a woman of that stature qualify for the gardai?

They literally swat her away at the end there – hardly an effective member of the force.

I think Princess Leia said it best
‘Aren’t you a little short to be a stormtrooper?’

I wouldn’t have AS much as a problem with this if they also treated scumbags like this, but they don’t. They only ever go heavy on easy targets. ‘Tis the way of the bully.

The black guy seemed pretty friendly and was just having the craic. It looks like an over the top arrest. Maybe he said something rude that wasn’t picked up on the video? But it sure looks like a heavy handed Gardai reaction.

The other drunk lads seemed to be getting in the way, surprised one of them wasn’t also arrested.

That “Man minding his own business” label is in the exact place to hide what happened to the black guy just before he was arrested. (1:30 in the second video – the ban garda suddenly reacts, and then goes to cuff him)

Is there a version without that label?

Aye, I clicked that link recently and found that out too :)
I thought it was some running gag that went over my head lol!

Quite a few more Gardai there than on O’Connell St. when the fight was taking place last week.

That female Garda needs to go back to Tenplemore and learn how to de-escalate a situation. Grabbing a phone out of someones hand only added to antagonise the situation further. Resulting in the need to call for back up.

Her “DON’T F__K WITH ME” in the closing seconds before radioing for backup was inspired. She’s definitely been watching TV cop shows..

    2. Praetorian

Templemore….!!! Sure that’s where she got it from in the first place…that’s where they all got….
a stint in the UN school in the Curragh might soften her cough, the little witch.

Nordies always sticking their noses in looking for fake injustice
Failed to follow the Garda’s instruction

  8. Ah sure jaysus you know yourself

  9. gringo

Amazing how the police make fools of themselves when they interact with the public like this. Pure amateur nonsense. At least they seemed to be unarmed. Gwan the RUC

lol this site has the worst commenters on the internet. along with some anti-vax contributors, seems to be a real toilet all in all. I actually feel like it’s dirtying my computer having the broadsheet tab open.

No big fan of the Gardai but would need more information before making a judgement – I know, not the most popular stance to take on the internet but there you go.

He might have been some top tier gangster, he might have been an innocent chap being racially targeted but this video shows a brief few minutes of what is happening and we really have no way to tell from this vantage?

  12. Bort

The guy arrested had over 2 minutes to walk away. How long was this going on from the time of recording?
The laughing hyenas surrounding them didn’t help him at all. If a Guard tells you to leave the area and you don’t you’re going to get yourself arrested. People need to learn the ins and outs of the public order act. They could have arrested more of them who were drinking in public and didn’t move any when instructed to.

Nothing to see here. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
