No Contrition

“I am saying that we need to trust parents. Parents know what’s right for themselves and how to protect their health. There’s a sense that we can’t trust parents. And I think that’s very unfair.”

“I’m looking at some everyday gatherings in bars, restaurants around the country, Croke Park at the weekend, concerts; I heard discussed last night 70,000 people attending Electric Picnic. Weddings, anniversaries birthday parties. That a parent cannot take their child along to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, that is simply not credible.”

“Its okay to have a bash in the Merrion Hotel with 50 people present. But it’s not possible for parents to take their child in to receive the sacrament. That is difficult for me and for priests and for parents.”

Archbishop of Dublin Dr Dermot Farrell on RTÉ News at One this afternoon

In fairness to the Catholic Church, it has always trusted people to do what is right and make their own decisions in the interests of themselves and their own families. So saying:

“I am saying that we need to trust parents. Parents know what’s right for themselves and how to protect their health. There’s a sense that we can’t trust parents. And I think that’s very unfair.”

is really just following on what the CC has always believed.

        From the midlands of Westmeath,
        to the streets of Drimoleague.
        From Tourlestrane to Vatican
        Every woman, every man.

Hit me with your rhythm method
        Hit me, Hit me.
All the way from here to Fethard
        Hit me, hit me.

      Hahaha!

I’m actually delighted at this. Not for the fans, that sucks. But because MCD / Festival Republic tried to bring it in for only the vaxed to attend. Scumbags

Plus Live Nation \ Ticketmaster are reportedly getting artists to sign Covid contracts to not disclose their positive status. Gag orders basically (allegedly of course)

      https://www.hotpress.com/music/live-nation-denies-artists-contracts-have-covid-gag-order-22864485

And since all those companies are basically the same company with a huge monopoly on the music biz globally.

      Delighted… :)

I think petty may be too mild a word tbh. Obnoxious, perhaps.

          You enjoy your ‘win’ though.

Why is it that these type of events can happen in the north but not the south?

Once again I ask- what is so different about the health advice being given?

    1. Cian

Because we are being more cautious.

Did you miss the memo about 2,996 Covid deaths in NI? 30 in the last week?

      NI population: 1.885,000
      NI deaths per million 1,587

      RoI deaths per million: 1,007.
We would need an extra 2,500 deaths to be at the same level.

      1. SOQ

Tunnel vision cautiousness which is deeply unpopular with the general public.

Interesting that you will quote Covid-19 fatalities when it suits you- but sure isn’t that what you are paid to do eh?

Suggesting you are paid to post your repetitive dribblings every day is not really a jibe. Even FFG aren’t that thick. They know the natural lickspittles will do it anyway.

The freaks outside the department of health are not an accurate representation of the general public.

Government allows stupid things to happen therefore we should get to do stupid things too … great point

In any event, nice of the attorney general to come out and say we can all do what we want outside with 200 people, so you could in theory organise 350 mini-electric picnic that are all two meters apart in a field in Laois… will Laois CC grant 350 licenses rather than not grant 1… time will tell…

  3. Tom

Completely spot on from the AB. About time the govt. was challenged on its approach and attitude towards freedom of religion.
