I’m finding this new phenomenon of Covid Vaccine Breakups so fascinating.
How widespread is it in Ireland?
Are people really letting go of long and enduring friendships on the back of vaccine hesitancy?
And is it more than that? Is it a change in ideology and behaviour? pic.twitter.com/gouYC2Ndnt

Anyone?

I’d let go of a friendship if said friend named their child “Oonagh” instead of “Úna”
Wasn’t there an Ultan on here ages ago that was a pain in the rear? The name Ultan is worse than OoOnqgh, not by much.
Not as bad as a Dearbhla. Without exception, every Dearbhla i have ever known was a nasty bad minded, self absorbed idiot.
Why would anyone want to stay with a vaccine conspiracy nut?
What phenomenon? Where is she getting this from?
It’s from Twitter so it must be real and important.
It depends on what their vaccine hesitancy is grounded in. If it’s due to a previous adverse reaction or worries about interactions with other meds, that would be okay because you could at least have a conversation about it.
If it’s Muzzles! Scamdemic! Magnets! Jews! 5G! Paedos! then I’m just glad that Covid exposed them as a fash supporting loon.
Don’t you think most cases are the first scenario ? Yet all the ratlicker loon stuff makes it harder for people to have conversations.
+1
Besides, having friends with different opinions is important.
As long as you remember that you agree on most things and this Covid thing is just a small percentage of things you don’t agree on.
I have lost zero friends because of Covid. Had plenty of “heated debates”.
But all still friends. ;)
There’s different opinions like Political party A v Political party B, Man U v Liverpool or Red V White wine. Believing in “scamdemic” batplop and woo isn’t an opinion, it’s a deliberate choice to believe in charlatans and racists.
Sure Daisy
…but we believe EVERYTHING is up for debate.
That’s the overriding thing I have in common with my pals. It’s all on the table for discussion.
“I would rather have questions that can’t be answered, than answers that can’t be questioned.”
Richard Feynman
Literally nobody makes such a choice. Truth is not a race for any but those who see themselves as superior by virtue of of their viewpoint.
‘…but we believe EVERYTHING is up for debate.’
Bet you don’t.
That is the intention Janet, to silence debate.
Spanish academics have found the vaccine is 98% grapheme oxide – a super conductive and almost indestructible toxin – which can can activated by frequencies such as 5G. It is undeclared in the ingredients however – a trade secret apparently – and it explains the magnetic phenomenon.
But no doubt you know better Daisy. Because you always know better.
only 98% grapheme oxide?
They should get Walter White on the case – he’s dedicated to getting that to 99%
At least daisy knows how to spell ‘graphene oxide’.
As a point of note.. spelling is not the basis of much more than pedantry..
Yes, I’m afraid I fall into this category. Wouldn’t class it as being as a result of vaccine hesitancy alone – more so on the wider topic of Covid and the many arguments we had on it. We were poles apart for a finish.
sorry to hear that yup yup,
Thanks Janet, for the best
I imagine there is usually a deeper cause for the breakup of a relationship/friendship. The vaccine issue is likely just a symptom as opposed to a cause. There are people out there that love the idea of vaccine passport’s, IDs and contact tracing everywhere you go and greater state control over people’s lives. By and large, people that some of these viewpoints are very pro-vaccine.
People who hold more opposing views tend to be vaccine hesitant and less trusting of the media and government officials.
They are not going to meet in pubs or at indoor social events. Invariably they are going to get more distant over time and gravitate towards those they can easily socialise with.
There is very little surprising over this. Although it is regrettable. I’m not judging either way, I’m just observing.
At the end of the day, people have to make their own informed choices and live with the consequences.
Ya, fair point on the deeper cause. Perhaps in my case Covid, and our differences on it, accelerated the inevitable.
You are assuming vaccine passports are a permanent thing, which I doubt if the current stories are confirmed- that vaccinated can be just as infectious- then it is game over.
Remember when we saw one another as people, not vaccination statuses? We’re all diminished by this.
Speak for yourself.
I still see people as people, not as a vaccination status.
In the event that a “friend” attempts to enforce body choices, I question friendship.
scrape ’em off your shoe and walk on.
following dogma, never caused any problems for anyone ever.
Us Irish don’t need to look too far behind us to see that.
