Via Irish Times:

Live music and performances will be permitted and multiple tables can be booked for outdoor events of up to 200 people under new guidelines published by Fáilte Ireland today.

However, there must be “robust protective measures” are in place, with numbers attending up to the limit of 200 to be determined by the area an event is taking place, under new guidelines.

The guidelines also state that “intermingling between tables is not permitted”.

HA! It’s frankly absurd you’d have people on here commenting “I’ll take my advice from a medical professional” or “what makes you an expert in virology?” and here we are 2 years into this rubbish being instructed in public health by the flipping tourist board.
astonishing claptrap of the highest order

That’s good, so the shindig has made delta less serious? If only we had known this earlier.

They don’t make the decisions they publish the info. There is a health body that sets the guidelines. I think it is the HPSC. Failte Ireland just reproduces and publicises them.

      1. GiggidyGoo

Failte Ireland is a Statutory Body set up by Government. It should be singing exactly the same hymns.

I wonder what prompted this sudden change in guidance? The Shinners are laughing their nuts off at so many own goals.

Which is why this current bout of SNAFUs will go unpunished by the coalition. If there are calls from either government party for resignations, it will trigger a GE which FFFGG don’t want because they know they’ll be wiped out. They’ll cling on at least until the pensions kick in.

Would they be wiped out though?
        I just don’t see it.
Sure we’re all ‘mad’ with them, but the voters will put them back into power.
For many, the Shniners are never going to be an option. They’d rather FFFG back in.

For ‘many’ more the shinners are a better option than the endemic corruption we’ve put up with for many years.

Apparently I can organise an outdoor shindig with a band but the tables are not allowed to mix. Who makes this stuff up? Failte Ireland need a dose of common sense Farcical

This is supposed to save Leo’s job? If anything this shameless revisionism is just more reason for him to gtfo.

  5. George

An event of 200 people without intermingling between tables? What fantasy world are they living in?

Are to we believe that Leo confined himself to only speaking to people at his table? I don’t.

What has caused this change of heart – pandemic receding ? Don’t think so….
Public Health is the priority until political survival is under threat.
What wasn’t safe days ago becomes safe, just to keep someone’s backside out of the bacon slicer.
Would love to hear Phil Hogan’s thoughts on this.
What a time to be alive – glad to be alive.

George I’m law abiding not guideline abiding same as everyone else. Except some of us are showing the rest that the law is the law and guidelines are for the gobshites that don’t understand the difference between the law and guidelines.

Cian, if the AG can defend Varadkar then so can you .. come on out and explain why this is all actually ok.

  8. axelf

im sure dr tony will write a suitably strident letter to the govt cautioning against this course of action

Truly sickened by this. Apparently AG usually provides advice pre-fupp up – he’s been called in to rescue toppled Tainiste who is no where to be found. AG must explain his involvement at this late stage. It is so bloody obvious they are attempting to pull wool over. Not this time ! Heather Humphries opened development of 25 new social housing units with another twelve coming on stream in same development next year. Guess what … she wasn’t available to speak to the media! Wonder why ……

Seán Kyne had to step up to the plate on Prime Time – he wasn’t at the event ; didn’t know when the Tainiste would surface to explain himself; had not attended the cabinet meeting so he really couldn’t comment … but he did admit when pressed they didn’t follow guidelines even if the law is another matter altogether. (We know better)

C’m out Varadkar and face the music. Longer you hide the greater the controversy – perhaps those new advisers might tell you what to say … six advisers whispering to Varadkar; six to An Taoiseach and another 8 to Eamon Ryan and this is what we get …. Ffs ! Pathetic !

This whole saga is shocking. How have we become so inured to this kind of disdain by the golden circle for the electorate? Because the democratic process is broken. Democracy hasn’t operated in this country for years and this is the result. They think they can get away with ANYTHING.
