‘Revellers’ at Electric Picnic in 2015
This afternoon.
Via RTÉ
Laois County Council has said it cannot legally revisit its previous refusal of an event licence for Electric Picnic 2021 and that statutory timelines would not allow for the processing of a new application in time for the original date.
….MCD’s Caroline Downey said that in light of ‘Dr Holohan’s remarks remarks and those made by Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly, the promoters have re-applied to Laois County Council to run the event.
She said if successful, and unlike Croke Park last weekend, organisers would only allow people to work or attend the festival if they are fully-vaccinated, using a Covid certificate to confirm this.

“There is no legal basis for restricting outdoor events such as the Electric Picnic or the All-Ireland final to fully vaccinated people because the existing legislation that permits discrimination in favour of vaccinated people only covers indoor premises”https://t.co/hYDgfAEyy2

This afternoon.
Andy Pipkin writes:
The Government has no plans to introduce new laws or regulations that would allow large outdoor events to take place for people who are fully vaccinated or immune from Covid-19.
Digital covid certificates that are currently being used by people to access indoor dining on the basis they are fully vaccinated or immune having had the disease in the last six months could not legally be used to restrict access to outdoor events, the Government has clarified.

Last night/this morning.
Via RTE:
The scenes of large crowds at Croke Park has led to representatives from the entertainment industry to question why similar events cannot be held with similar crowds for their sector.
Mr Donnelly said the entertainment industry has had a “really brutal time”, adding the Government wants to see it reopen safely and not have to close down again.
Asked if an event such as Electric Picnic could go ahead, he said he did not want to comment about individual events.
“The questions being raised by the entertainment sector are very reasonable … there should be more pilots to scale up these events,” the minister said.
Changes to All-Ireland spectator rules ‘unlikely’ – Donnelly (RTE)
Meanwhile…
‘For now, the practicalities of returning to some kind of normal remain unclear. Officials sensibly advised people to be cautious in their mixing given the high levels of disease circulating at present, but their advice about congregation was at times confusing.
Dr Holohan effectively said he was happy for vaccinated people to attend events such as the All-Ireland final or Electric Picnic and for the unvaccinated to be kept out.
At the same briefing, his Nphet colleague and university lecturer Prof Philip Nolan was firm in ruling out the exclusion of unvaccinated students from third-level lectures. It wasn’t just that he disagreed with it; he felt it would serve little use.’
It’s all about when – not if – Covid restrictions will be lifted (Irish Times)

a point well made with the headline
Who could have predicted that vaccine passports would be extended to cover gigs/matches and more?
Oh great Dr death is dispensing these new dictates to the unwashed masses.
What he is saying makes little sense, according to NPHET and other international health bodies, people who have gotten fully vaccinated and still catch and transmit the virus. But maybe protecting public health was never the real objective.
They are trying to get people used to the idea that everywhere they go, they have to carry their papers. And that individual person doesn’t really have any rights dead rather they have certain privileges that can be withdrawn or amended by government bureaucrats at any time.
The narrative is starting to fall apart here a little. We are far enough along into this government that politicians are starting to think about the next election. It’s abundantly clear to them that they will get wiped out as things currently stand. To advocate extending restrictions or bringing in new ones is political suicide.
Even unelected officials are starting to care, if the current government gets thrown out and replaced. The new crowd might investigate what they did and hold them to account publicly.
I do not believe a word of anything that the authorities say anymore.
They waffle on while killing off sectors wholesale – yet allow 40,000 get special treatment in another sector?
Apartheid regime where their state takes care of their mates. To hell with them.
+ a very hot hell
Dr Holohan should be in prison.
+1
And Nolan along with him. The have fought any attempts to return to normality every step of the way.
This will continue until the entrainment industry take to the streets in protest.
For his part in the Cervical Check scandal, yes.
For this, no. He is in an advisory role, it’s up to the government to follow or not follow his advice. That the mismanagement of our tackling of COVID is being laid at his door suits Leo and Micheal perfectly.
Also for his part in the swine flu vaccine scandal. Where the lives of 80+ children at the time were destroyed by a fast tracked vaccine. A vaccine that Holohan continued to tell Irish parents was safe, while it was being pulled across Europe for safety reasons. It has taken victims 10 yrs to get to court with this guy & his government pals fighting them at every turn.

Taoiseach Holohan eh?
If the jabs don’t stop infection or transmission then what’s the point of passports?. Vaccinated showing same viral load as unvaccinated with delta variant. Also what are boosters for if the jab doesn’t stop infection or transmission.. Boosting profits? Control? Fear? Lovely to see supporters in Croke Park again, what a smashing game it was.
Wrong. Jabs lower the risk of infection and transmission
By how much?
By 0.05%- I am plucking that figure out of thin air which is exactly what everyone else is doing too.
So… by your measure it meets the standard threshold of statistically significant? Great!
It depends on the vaccine, your age (and general health) and the strain.
But the vaccines are anywhere between 70-90% effective
A recent study in Israel shows that (when you look at each age group against Delta) the 80-89 group having the lowest efficacy (81.1%) and all others between 88.7% and 100% against “severe disease’;
https://www.covid-datascience.com/post/israeli-data-how-can-efficacy-vs-severe-disease-be-strong-when-60-of-hospitalized-are-vaccinated
oh, and any time you separate “vaccinated” from “unvaccinated” in these studies you need to remember that lots of both groups will have had a previous infection and have “natural immunity”.
The vaccines are now useless, covid is mutating. The infected vaccinated now have the same viral load as the unvaccinated infected. It’s a failed experiment, natural immunity will always offer more robust protection. Be sure to take your booster though to boost Pfizer’s profits
LOL@Lolly
@Lolly, if COVID is mutating as much as you suggest then natural immunity will have the same problems and people can get Covid multiple times.
Yes Cian, except that natural immunity is more robust to mutations as antibodies are formed against the entire protein of the virus – whereas vaccines currently use just a protein subunit (spike protein).
Natural immunity has more “areas” of the virus to attack, relative to vaccine induced immunity, as a limitation of current vaccines and their narrow focus (S1 protein)
I’m not sure the natural immunity argument holds up at all when you are talking about a virus that was genetically modified and additionally engineered in a lab. This is also why the mutations are becoming ever more contagious, this is the spike protein they enhanced the most and stored in a human cell before it was leaked. Did nobody watch the Channel 4 documentary about it on Sunday night? Seems fairly conclusive. There is an international team of scientists doing the investigating of the Chinese and US lab partership called D.R.A.S.T.I.C.
The vaccines are really successful at minimizing hospitalizations and lowering risk of death from covid. That’s what they were designed to do, not stop contagiousness.
It’s worth a watch that doc.
@Lolly- spot on. It’s all about profits.
@Junk- ALL viruses become more infectious but less serious over time, that is how they survive.
That is a myth you slurry tanker. Ebola and Zika being two examples which prove you wrong.
Even the Delta variant disproves your claim. It is both more virulent and transmissible than its predecessor
All Coronaviruses- is that better? And no it is not a myth. SRASR-CoV-2 is already in its endemic phase, just like all the rest before it.
Please refrain from name calling- it just makes you look aggressive and well… a bit dim.
They can amend the law in a matter of days if they want to but they wouldn’t want to upset GAA fans.
awful lot of cork voters at the hurling – shur why would that matter?
It might make one wonder if all this kerfuffle is a conscious and devious attempt to garner public support to start expanding the Covid Pass to outdoor events. Another awful precedent would be set. The State trying to use vaccine passes to lull the public into accepting an Orwellian level of societal monitoring and control. But, but, why would they do dat, said the sheeples….
What I don’t get is why SF are so silent- they voted against the passports which are clearly unpopular so why aren’t they being an actual opposition on this matter?
SF voted in a very strategic manner. They knew if they went against it would still pass. They are all for it, and they did the same for the ‘temporary’ covid laws, voted for it at first, then to look good voted against, while enough of their TD were absent (which if there would have made the numbers up to not pass it again).
And as we all know at this stage, Mary L two sisters are involved in two of the pharmaceutical companies vaccines rollout.
SF haven’t been an actual opposition to the government on anything for the past 18 months. In other countries they have major opposition political parties actually questioning government measures, asking for scientific proof to justify them etc. In Ireland we have SF being completely silent on everything and towing the government line. Its a pretty huge problem.
+ 1.
They are no opposition, rather part of the propping up of this current threesome. But still they’ll expect to slither in on their bellies to more seats and even a chance at the throne. When the winds of change start to blow, and just before the lid blows off this whole debacle, they’ll time it so they appear to be against it and also claim to have been all along.
