If you scroll down to the COVID-19 14-day Incidence Rate per 100,000 Population by Local Electoral Area (LEA) on https://covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/, you will see that there is no discernible difference between the border counties and the rest.

It would be interesting to see an all Ireland map of course- but some people get upset at that suggestion.

Yes, antigen testing is far more common in other European countries and, even when they use PCR they have a lower threshold so way less false positives.

Who is that guy who has an interest in the PCR labs again?

      1. Micko

Totally. I’m sure there’s no conflict of interest going on ;)

Ye know we could choose to look at this as a positive.

We currently have 39,201 active Covid cases in Ireland – – nearly 10K in the last week alone.

But only 75 people in ICU with it.

        That’s 0.2%

        Be grand…

Failure to open up in the summer yet again

Pent up demand is a real thing, and we’re only just getting going now in October – at the start of flu season too lol

That’s deliberate timing. They relax restrictions in line with our advance into the normal flu and respiratory virus season so they can use the correlation trick on the dumb herd. Cases are naturally going to rise in late October and into November. They’ll claim it is the lack of or removal of restrictions causing it. They’ll claim, look at how low we kept numbers with the restrictions (summer, low respiratory illness season) and look how they blew up when we released those restrictions at the end of October (start of respiratory illness season). This time though they’ll seek to blame most of it on the unvaccinated. All focus in the narrative is on demonizing and dehumanizing the unvaccinated. Likely try blame the unvaccinated for “ruining Christmas”. It isn’t hard to radicalise elements of the dumb herd against a minority group as can be seen from some of their poisonous comments on the unvaccinated on here.

True about the masks. Once the seniors received their double Zenecas the masks slipped to little chin hammocks.

    2. Mr.T

Masks even when worn correctly would do little to make such a difference infection rates.

Also having been to plenty of these low infection countries, the mask wearing is not so different from here.

I thought the vaccine can’t stop you from getting Covid, but it will hopefully protect you from it so you most likely will be asymptomatic?

In which case, we’re probably doing more testing than anyone else.

Why are we still even testing if so many are vaccinated anyway?

Lack of immunity from prior infection. Ireland had the longest, strictest lockdown in Europe. And a much more observant population that actually stuck to it than in most other European countries. So we had far fewer infections than most European countries.

The Israeli study that was published last month shows natural immunity post infection is 27 times stronger than being double vaccinated. ie it actually does prevent reinfection, to a much greater extent than being vaccinated alone. And for a period of at least 15 months we now know as of this week, thanks to the recent Kings College London study.

Its why cases in the US have declined from a 7 day average of 175,000 a month ago to 90,000 now, despite very little increase in vaccination in that time there. And despite society being completely open, no masks, and the lowest vaccination rate in the first world. They’re finally reaching a high enough natural immunity threshold to make a dent in the spread.

    1. SOQ

So basically, the more locked down people were, the more likely it is to spread now. This is exactly what happened in Peru which had the harshest lockdown in the world but also, the highest number of deaths.

The most interesting case of late is Japan, which has seen rates plummet- coincidentally at the very same time that Ivermectin was introduced of course.

      1. Fearganainm

Ivermectin is not listed by the Japanese government as an approved medicine to treat COVID-19.

Would you ever give it a rest.

“…While the chairman of the Tokyo Medical Association, Haruo Ozaki, has recommended the use of ivermectin on COVID-19 patients, neither he nor the organization is associated with the Japanese government. The group is akin to the American Medical Association in the United States. It can make suggestions, but cannot enact government policies, according to its parent organization, the Japan Medical Association…”

          1. SOQ

That doesn’t say it is not being used- it says it is not approved to be used on label- just like Ireland.

So what other explanation is there for Japan’s infection nose dive then?

      2. Fearganainm

“…In Japan, daily new cases nationwide peaked at over 25,000, and began declining in late August. They have remained below 1,000 for multiple days in October. Government subcommittee experts cited a combination of factors behind the decrease, including not only vaccinations progress but also that there were more seriously ill patients during the fifth wave, which led people to avoid high-risk activities…”

I could make a flippant remark but the real answer is go to any suburb since lockdown started and you’ll see house parties left and right, you’ll see people on public transport without masks, the beaches were packed this summer, shops were crammed, and then there’s the horror stories out of nursing homes. We had plenty of regulations, they just couldn’t be enforced, but we’ll all pretend we’re abiding by the rules, and look surprised as the infection rates continued to climb.
