Maybe it’s finally time to ditch the Santa persona as the bastion of plastic junk and embrace the truth. The kids of the future will be better for it.

      1. Redundant Proofreaders Society

(Waves). Hi Mr. Cavan! You still dressing up as Santa to save money?
        (Runs).

  2. George

The government aren’t stopping you seeing Santa. The people who organised it don’t want you. Tough.

    1. K. Cavan

That’s right, George, companies all banded together & invented the whole medical apartheid setup. Lame-assed.

        1. realPolithicks

Sure aren’t they all in Glasgow at the moment plotting the latest set of new world order rules and regulations to fluster and frustrate bodger and his online adherents.

          1. realPolithicks

And of course here comes soq with his usual nonsensical comments and “questions”, I’m sure one of your fellow conspiracy theorists will be along to provide you with whatever it is you need.

      1. George

The company providing the Santa service decided to use it. Anyone who wants is free to start their own Santa service. I’m sure there are loads who aren’t requiring vaccine certs. This guy just wants a moan.

Stop bandying the word apartheid around you baby, it is an insult to those who suffered under it.

  3. Zaccone

“A government health pass is tinfoil hat conspiracy theory, that will never happen”
“The pass is only for a few weeks in August until everyones vaccinated”
“We’re only extending the legislation past October just to be extra careful, we won’t use it”

Its funny how things evolve isn’t it?

    1. Nigel

I’m not sure this a tin-foiled conspiracy theory so much as on a par with broken election promises, except here they’re making promises that can’t be kept because there’s a tootlin’ pandemic on. Blame them for what they’re doing wrong or badly, but if we start elevating it into the realm of conspiracy we start blaming shadowy figures behind the other shadowy figures while our lot are just hapless interchangeable pawns so who cares what they do and none of it really matters.

(I suppose you could class politicians making promises they know they can’t keep as a sort of conspiracy but it’s one that can be laid entirely on them and not shadowy global elites.)

      1. E'Matty

Fatlad, even with a vaccine your chances with Covid are worse than mine. You’d want be careful visiting Santa.

          1. thefatlad

BS handle does not equate to real life. Is your name actually E’Matty? Are you, in fact, a sentient mat? You see where I’m going with this.

      1. Cian

        they don’t you know.

        1. vaccinated are less likely to catch Covid.
        2. if they do catch Covid, they are contagious for less time.
        3. while contagious they have similar viral load

Overall a vaccinated person transmits less than unvaccinated.

        1. Mr.T

Year long studies prove thats false though Cian.
Results of study tracking vaccinated and unvaccinated found that vaccinated are just as likely to transmit to household as unvaccinated. Been splashed across the papers too – youve surely seen it

          1. Nigel

IN A HOUSEHOLD. If someone in a household has covid they’re likely to pass it on to others LIVING IN THE SAME HOUSE even if vaccinated, because, y’know, people living together in the same house and it’s difficult to isolate, distance, ventilate all the time. Fortunately in that situation if they do catch it they’re less likely to end up in hospital because they’re vaccinated.

          2. Micko

            It’s ok Mr T

Covid knows if you’re living in a gaff together that you’re fair game, but if you’re working on top of each other in a chipper it’ll leave ya alone.

            Soundest virus EVER!!

          3. Micko

            Look Nigel..

If you’re not even gonna be TRY to be funny or quippy I’m not going to play anymore.

            Deal?

          4. Micko

            “Will you be starting soon?”

            Aaaah.. ha ha ha!

I know you won’t believe this – but I wrote that exact comeback down on a piece of paper 20 mins ago. Put it in an envelope and handed it to my beautiful assistant.

Well, I had “I’ll start when you start” to be precise. But close enough God damn it!

Yer gettin predictable in yer old age Nidge my boy

          5. Micko

            I know ;(

I know that you haven’t been handed the best cards in life.

            I feel for you, I really do…

Even with all the ribbing I give you – I always say ‘you can’t spell Broadsheet with out “Bro” ‘ eh eh?

Remember that… you’ll always have ME.

But look, chin up. Things will get better and all than. Stiff upper lip old boy etc

Always a silver cloud, kittens and puppies, laughing children and all that good stuff.

          6. Micko

Misses chance to use “rubbing” in gag. Relies on previous “Jack” material instead…

Look, I’m not gonna set you up like this if you’re not gonna play along.

        2. K. Cavan

Cian, to be spouting such utter drivel at this stage is either wilful ignorance or you really are badly-named, since you’re clearly not the keenest knife in the drawer.
“Vaccinated are less likely to catch Covid”, a-ha-ha-ha-ha, how do you imagine that works, you time-waster!
Go away & stop making a show of yourself & insulting Nigel’s intelligence.

    1. E'Matty

How are they “keeping them safe” Paul? The vaccinated are clearly just as capable of infection and transmission or did you miss the part where 3500 healthcare workers are out of work this week?

      1. Nigel

        ‘just as capable’

        No they’re not.

‘3500 healthcare workers are out of work this week?’

Without vaccines it might have been a bloodbath.

          1. E'Matty

HSPC death figures: 11 Sept – 9 October
-118 Deaths with lab confirmed Covid infection
            -20/118 (16.9%) were unvaccinated.
-98/118 (83.1%) had at least one dose.
            -94/118 (79.7%) were fully vaccinated

Fancy a bet on the direction this will continue to go? I bet for Oct to November, the rate at which the vaccinated die versus the unvaccinated will continue to deteriorate, which will then be the trend going forward. Medium to long term, I’d also be willing to bet the unvaccinated will have better general health outcomes than the vaccinated, across ALL major illnesses and diseases. You’re on that train now. No turning back. Good luck.

          2. Nigel

            – 17% from, what 8% of the population should be worrying for anyone in that 8%. Hospitalisation rates are even worse, aren’t they?
            – and what were death rates like before the vaccines and during the early stages of the rollout?

    1. E'Matty

Yeah, except us “unhinged” types have been getting it right every time whilst you Covidiot believers keep getting it wrong. Enjoy your degraded immune system for life sucker!

  4. SOQ

The solution to this is simple- boycott the business- take your money else where.

It will soon be like the pubs where you can gain entry with a Tesco barcode- and the Karens will be none the wiser.

    Actually- you probably can already.

      1. E'Matty

Cian, I think you’re under the false impression that everyone who is vaccinated supports vaccine passes.

        1. SOQ

Yup that is the theme all along- that once people get jabbed they lose all sense of decency.

Except they don’t, and they won’t, especially now that over even relatively short periods of time, vaccinated have been proven to be just as infectious.

  5. just millie

Aren’t the ‘Ask a Broadsheet Reader‘ posts usually submissions from other readers, not random twitter screengrabs?

  6. Micko

    @KB
People here are panicking because the hoop that they had to jump through for their “freedoms” isn’t having the desired effect they were promised.

    So you’ve two choices.

Just get a mates cert and ignore them.

OR an even better idea – don’t go to Santa and don’t give out about it.

Live with the choice you’ve made and know that you’ve done right by you and your kids.

Micheal Martin is literally on the cover of the Irish Examiner today talking about “looking forward to the expansion of boosters” for ALL and some of these clowns are clapping him on.

It’s starting to dawn on them that they’ve been made fools of and someone needs to be punished.

    That’s you that is…

          1. Micko

“Yeah oh yeah… well… yeah maybe you’re right Mick. But ye know what – you’re in QAnon. Yeah. So there!

Look everyone! Micko’s in Qanon and loves Trump or something”

            Pfft…

Try harder to have a point other than that Nigel.

I know you have it in you.

            I believe in you.

          2. Nigel

No, no, no, reading is basic. You are Qanon-lite. Qanon is all TRUST THE PLAN. You’re just ‘It’s starting to dawn on them.’ Qanon is all ‘The vaccine is a crime against humanity and a plot to enslave the human race!’ You’re all – ‘Well I got covid and now I’m immune therefore pandemic over where are my freedoms this is a crime against me to enslave me!’

          3. Micko

            Woh… revelation!

You know, I think you’re right. After months of accusing EVERYONE who doesn’t agree with you of being a Qanon member – I’ve finally cracked! This time it’s actually worked – like a jewish lad in the Spanish Inquisition.

Nigel has shown me the light – Praise be Brother Nigel!!!

            I AM QANON!!!!!

Now, where do I sign to get my AR15 assault rifle and my Fawn outfit to storm the Convention Centre.

            Like this dude https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-protester-capitol-antifa-qa-idUSKBN29C0BP

            .

Pssst… just checking here. Do ya think we’re gonna do this back and forth all day or what? Coz I was thinking of going to the cinema. Ben told me the new Dune is good.
            .
            .
Yeah… I’m just gonna go to the cinema. Now you’ve got what you want.

  7. D-troll

i used to love drinking 3litres of vodka in the morning and then driving my kids to school. now the government are saying im not allowed to drive my kids to school cause id be wasted.

similar circumstances, not having a vaccination cert, and driving drunk are both harming society. you arent forced to vaccinate or drink, but if you do, you are a danger to society.

    1. Micko

      “ similar circumstances”.

      Yup. Totally comparable.

      See @KB

Do you see the mental gymnastics these guys will do to persuade themselves that they have done the right thing.

Stay away from these nuts. They are not normal.

      1. SOQ

1985- I was a crazy religious year- I had moving statues and everything.

2021- You wanna see blind faith? Hold my coat.

          1. Nigel

But you can hardly deny there was a lot of adjacent and harmful scaremongering, scapegoating, moral outrage and denialism embedded deep within the culture and politics of the time, and beyond, right?

          2. SOQ

You never bothered watching to see what Nikolai Petrovsky had to say now did you?

You couldn’t have in that time frame.

          3. Nigel

No. Stop trying to rickroll me.

I suppose you could still respond to my question, but I won’t get my hopes up.

What’s this modern obsession with the Santa Experience, and pumpkin patches, and such?

Herself wanted to find a ‘good Santa experience’ for ours this year. Not the like ‘crap one’ we saw a few years ago with nephews, this had to be a ‘good one’.

Besides the unrealistic expectation of an immersive north pole experience on an open farm somewhere 20 miles outside of the city, our twins are one and cry if new adults look at them up close. What is the expected result of dragging them into a darkened log cabin to meet a stranger? Another photo of a wailing child.

That aside, sounds like there’s a good opportunity for a my body my choice Santa experience going for himself. Ben Gilroy would make a good Santa I’d say.

  9. George

Unvaccinated people are more likely to get Covid-19. A positive case of Covid-19 can shut down a business for two weeks. The Santa business only lasts about 7 weeks. The man is a threat to their business due to his own choice, tough.

          1. Nigel

I saw no data establishing that vaccinated people are more likely to contract covid than unvaccinated.

      1. Daisy Chainsaw

        https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/conspiracy-theories-run-wild-covid-lockdown-sceptics-jskg3wrtv

At first glance the slick production looks like the work of Sky News or the BBC but this is not a conventional news channel. Brian Gerrish, a former Royal Navy lieutenant commander, nods in approval as his co-presenter tells the audience: “The Public Health England report seems to show very clearly that should you fall ill with Covid-19 as a vaccinated person, you’re much more likely to die as a result.”

The untrue claim passes unchecked and the programme continues with an attack on the BBC’s coverage of a lockdown protest and suggestions that the restrictions will not be lifted on July 19. Gerrish describes vaccinations as “being stabbed with a chemical”.

        1. Chris

Yes, I’m aware of that hit piece. They’re taking legal action against The Times (who’ve been compromised for a while).
